xp without quests or challenges?

Post » Thu Oct 21, 2010 10:27 pm

I am level 28 and am looking for ways to earn xp and get to 30 for the achievement, here's the catch, without doing quests. I've done most (not all) quests in the game and am sick of looking for ones I haven't done. This is my fourth character so when I look at a list of quests in the game, I've done them all and I can't remember the few that I haven't done with this particular character. So quests are out, I'm not doing any.

So that leaves me those challenges which is also a chore because I've already done a ton of them through normal play and I'd have to completely change what kind of weapons I'm using to get some of them which is hard at level 28 when you've poured all your points into one type of weapon.

Please don't suggest playing mods, I'm on 360.

Is there any way to earn a decent amount of xp without doing quests or challenges? That question sounded stupid as I was typing it and the answer is probably no, but it's worth a try before I continue endlessly killing super mutants with energy weapons...

One more thing, I don't have Dead Money and I'm not getting it anytime soon so i miss out on all that xp. I'm gonna try to wait for the game of the year edition in a year or 2 and play all the DLCs back to back. I know, that's a long time to wait but that's getting off topic so please just respond to my original question.

Hunt game..

Giant radscorpions, deathclaws, cazadore's and nightstilkers will earn you a bucket of XP quickly ( 50Xp or 55XP each if well rested. )
As will Fire geckos, super mutants and Lakelurks.

That or just go to a faction base and open fire.

That's basically what I've been doing, only I try to tie it in with the challenges I have left. I have maxed out energy weapons and melee so I'm killing specific enemies with specific weapons. It's really tedious.

Ahh I see now.
To be frank one game with a stupid evil melee build all I did was get into fights and new challanges.
It ground out XP slightly slower than doing quests ( I only touched those that were non NCR, even then resolved by punching. )
It gets boring quick as after level 20+ you have enough skill, weapons and perks to do anything.
The only suggestion is do what I did, do the end quest and roll up another character to try something different.

Not really a good answer I'm afraid, but it's the only one that I can think of.

I think that's pretty much your only option unless you like the idea of opening every lock, hacking every computer and disarming every trap in the wastes.

Mods?

Nope. On the X-Box.

Killing things (I think Fiends give good XP as well as Karma and they respawn in a limited area.)
Hacking and Picking
Discovering places
Questing
Answering Dialog Challenges

I believe this is it for getting XP.

Have you been to the
Spoiler
Deathclaw Promontory
in this play-through? I think that's a lot of points.

The Thorn is always a fun place to fight. (but it may get boring quick)

Good idea, maybe I'll spend some time killing the hardest creatures in the arena there. No problem with respawns there, but you can only fight 3 at a time if I remember correctly.

I basically have picked every lock and hacked every computer and disarmed every trap I've come across. That's just how I play and I've been chasing my last remaining achievements with this character.

Yeah when I've completed all the challenges that I'm somewhat close to I'll probably hit up Quarry Junction and the Deathclaw Promontory.

Make Me Bleed (Thorn) and the quest for the sign maker on the strip give tons of experience points, and they are not really quests in the traditional sense.

Another alternative, based on which endgame you want to pursue, pick a faction to make an enemy of, then obliterate them from the map in every location possible. If you want to take out the Legion, then wipe out Cottonwood, Nelson, the Legion Raid camp, the Fort, and every patrol you come across in between. If you plan to work against the NCR, well there are dozens of locations you can purge, and get some decent stocks of ammo, guns and armor to boot. If you intend to remain at least partially friendly to both til you are ready for the final missions, then smash the Brotherhood, Powder Gangers, Fiends, Great Khans, or even the Kings til there are no survivors.

Plenty of things and people to kill out in the Vegas wasteland, you just have to be willing to get your hands dirty.

i just play dead money over and over about 4 plays or so you get 32, thats like six hour of game play. just dont pick any dead money perks till you stop doing runs. once you reload dm for the final time itll still be like you didnt do any quest but the tutorial (if you do it). if done grinding etc but reloading dm is the fastest way i tried and i get rich

Great idea. It would actually be fun to kill the entire legion camp or any large settlement like that and there's plenty of good loot to be had in the process. The thought had just never crossed my mind. I guess I've just been conditioned to not kill NPCs who don't attack me first.

I went the ncr route with this character and just reloaded a save after I finished the main quest so now I'm just trying to get to level 30 and I have no allegiances. I think I'm gonna pillage the entire strip! Muahahahaha!
