Not enough beasts and action?

Post » Tue Oct 26, 2010 10:13 am

Hello,
I'm around ~15 hours in the game so far, been exploring most of the wasteland before getting to New Vegas (I'm in Aerotech right now) and I'm a little confused. Across all the exploring, I barely killed anything. The only ones I killed were some Geku's and some Rat Moles, as well as Scorpions. That's it. Been walking for hours through the Wasteland, finding mostly Ruined spots, and some forsaken towns. But I couldn't really find anything remotely interesting.

How can you play 70+ hours? I explored most of the Wasteland (except for two areas where there are Deathclaws, these are impossible to kill) but haven't find anything interesting. Does it change once I'm in New Vegas? How does the game get interesting after that? I love the wasteland a lot, but there is simply nothing interesting going there.

I'm afraid my experience has been quite similar. Seems random events in the Wasteland are few and far between....perhaps even non-existent. Don't get too excited by new locations on the horizon either, chances are you'll be greeted by buildings with boarded-up doors. Things do spice up a bit when you enter Freeside or help out NCR. You can always go east and look for trouble with the Legion though ;)

I remember in Fallout 3 in every corner there was an enemy. It was actually quite frustrating but It's better than just walking and finding old ruins and random towns. :P

Go to Scorpion Gulch. Lots of Giant Radscorpions.

Or Quarry Junction - Lots of Deathclaws.

I find the amount of enemies in NV more complete than FO3. In FO3 it was relatively easy to stealth attack and entire area without using silenced weapons because all the enemies were spaced out; in NV they often are in groups of 3-5. It makes using explosives (or the Meltdown perk) actually useful other than a high-damage yield.

I like this personally. You really find humans in encampments and on roads, which makes sense. Beasties are all in the wild. It depends where you are. You want to face humans go to a settlement that doesn't like you. You'll get all the human combat you can handle.

Odd. On my trip from Goodsprings thru Primm/Nipton/etc to Novac, I couldn't step off the highway without running into rampaging packs of all sorts of stuff. Geckos, scorpions, ants, cazadors (ouch), ghouls, raiders.....

I'm at around 40-45 hours at the moment. I've explored lots of places on the map, but have just barely gotten into the Strip (kept getting distracted). My "Lord Death" challenge is somewhere above 500/700, so I've been killing all sorts of things. (I've got three ranks of the bug killer challenge; I think two of the animal killer; not sure about the others.)

You play the game to look for stuff to kill? ~Really!?

When my PC gets in a fight, it is because it is unavoidable... not because they were looking to exterminate all life that they encounter. The game has plenty of interesting things going on (including some fights)... but those are the simplest encounters, and hardly the ones that are interesting (for me at least).

(Of course it depends on the type of PC you are playing... If you are playing a maniac PC, well... the desert is not the most enjoyable setting for those PC's that like aggression and conflict ~there's very little out there.)

You only played 15 hours? Then you obviously haven't explored as much as you think you have, lol. There are 189 discoverable locations.

I have a decent PC, it handles everything.
Well...I don't play to kill, infact at first I tried to avoid as much as possible, but now I have so many guns (wow I can't even decide which to use) and soo many ammo, I just want to spread and blow some stuff. I did a massacre on Coyytown or whatever it's name. :P

That's true...But while I was exploring, I didn't encounter many enemies.

Go to the ruins and wastlands north and west of New Vegas. You'll find all the enemies, (human and creature) you could ever want or need :P

Sounds to me like you found the beasts you were looking for, then turned tail and ran. Also, you mean to tell me you haven't encountered Powder Gangers, Viper Gangs or Fiends? What game are you playing? If you want something to kill that qualifies as a "beast" and is more your speed, head over to the Lakelurk lagoon across the river from Cottonwood cove and slightly south along the river's edge.

You are doing it wrong, Between good springs and cotton wood cove there are enough hostiles (human and animal) to get to level 14-16 easy. Not counting Death claws. Ill detail more on down.

You are doing ti wrong too then, no need to fight C.L or NCR for lots of combat.

This.

The game has many things to shoot and kill, you are apparently just missing them all.
