Steam prices.

Sorry to make my first post on the forums a negative one.

So I went to buy New Vegas on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/22380/ and it's listed for $89.95US.
Now, I'm an Australian so that comes out at $92AUD. I can walk in to the average store and buy the BOXED copy for $79AUD.

I guess my main point is that people who live in America can buy it for $49.99US on Steam, the EXACT same service I would get charged $89.95US for. It's not like there are overheads like shipping on this kind of service.
I hope that the developers get the same amount of profit for the game no matter what price the consumer pays because I am going to wait until it goes on special and get an American friend to gift it to me over Steam. Hopefully this way the greedy publishers who had no hand in my sale get as little as possible.

If its an automated adjustment, I'd expect that the gift would likely cost the standard Australian price, no?

I dunno, but it sounds like a "cost of doing business in Australia" markup; but I could be wrong.

Aye, you're not the first person to (legitimately, IMO) complain about game pricing in Australia. I'm in the UK and bought the PC Steam version of the game for £29.99 - which converts to $49 AUD. Heck of a difference.

Pretty much whenever I visit a forum for any new game, I see this problem come up. So it's not just FNV, and there are a lot of other people in the same boat. All I can say is that it svcks and it's really unfortunate for the awesome people in Australia.

It's definitely not fair or reasonable or logical as far as I'm concerned.

Steam is a digital download - the cost should be the same everywhere.

If the servers in Australia cost more, that could be a reason, but I don't know whether Steam has separate servers in Australia - as far as I know, that's not the case, and that's the only thing I think that should possibly impact the price.
