The Gang's All Here...

Post » Thu Nov 04, 2010 9:52 am

Hay...

i want to get The Gang's All Here achievement, but to be honest i don't feel like playing through the game several times over.

Right now i have Veronica and Ed-E. Is it possible to dimiss one or both of them, hire a couple of new companions, dismiss them, hire a couple new ones, and repeat until achievement unlocks? Or do they have to be hired in entirely different games?

i know there's a bug where you can rehire the same companion eight times over and get the achievement, but i'd rather not do that. Playing alongside all of them one or two at a time throughout the same game could be fun tho. Their dialogue can get old after a long time, and i wouldn't mind mixing it up once and awhile with someone new if i could also get the achievement while doing it.

Tried to get an answer on the wiki and youtube, and could seem to find one.

Thanks! :twirl:

There is a bug. Some players get this achievement and some don't.

One game is all that is needed to recruit all the copmpanions and get the achievement. I know players who did this.

I was not so lucky. I even tried sending all companions to the Lucky 38 and re-recruiting them all there. No luck.

Looks like I'll have to start a new game and then just quickly go to all the companions just for recruiting purposes just for the achievent.

I like having ED-E as a companion. Now I have only ED-E with me. Having anyone else takes away from the fun. They always want to do the killing. ED-E seems more manageable.

Good luck on your companion recruiting. Make sure you shut down the game and restart if you use a console command.

There are a ton of mods that allow Unlimited Companions. But I think if you are getting the Steam Achievements it carries over from game to game, if you have a couple companions in one game, then the next use a different combination but I'm not sure. IF you opt for the Unlimited Companions mods, (only pick one but there are alot) remember each companion has a personal quest and they take time, if you want to get the best ending for them possible, it's advisable to do their personal quests also.

I got the achievement in one playthrough (still playing it). I was worried that if I let someone go I couldn't get them again. Not a problem as long as you don't do something to make them angry. I mainly stick with ED despite his pathological hatred of hostile robots. I'm working with Raul now. His is the last follower quest to do, then I will finish the game with Cass.

Sweet!

Unfortunately i am not among the ranks of the cool people, since i'm playing it on the 360. So no mods for me.

i was also worried that if i let each one go, i wouldn't be able to hire them again. It's cool someone else felt the same way and had no problems.

It's weird, after completing the Brotherhood stuff, it seems like Veronica has been exhausted of anything new to say, so Cass will be next. i'm not sure if it's possible, but i'm going to try and run through each companion and (optimally) complete each of their personally-related quests before moving on to the next companion.

Well....except maybe Rex. i haven't seen him yet, but the whole robobrain thing is almost too weird for me.

veronica and ed-e seem to go together. that is their quest updates seem to have the same trigger.

might be a good idea to do boone as the first sidekick as it seems according to wikia his triggers don't overlap with the other humans. Arcade Israel Gannonans seems to be the hardest to get all the triggers.

If you dismiss the companion, they either go back to where you got them from or the Lucky 38 if you have the suite and tell them to go there. The only way you lose a companion is if you do something in the game to upset them, like help the Legion and Boone may not want to follow you anymore.

As for getting all the companions, as you go through the game, there are some side quests that trigger Like/Dislike in your companions depending on what you do and how you respond. There is some overlap with some companions and you have to be careful. For example on one playthrough I had already done most of the things I needed to do with Boone before I got him. So, I could not have triggered his side quest.

I don't think it is possible to get all the companions and do all of their quests without knowing a lot about what you have to do before you do it. For some, this is too spoilerish as they want to discover the game.

Me, I tend to focus on one or two companions for each playthrough.

For the achievement one run through is all that's needed.
Just recruit one, tell them to find the wizard themselves go away, shoo, then move on to the next one.
You don't need to do their quests just recruit them for one time ( baring a glitchy poo. )
Just be sure if on pc to not hit the console key before you recruit one, if you do just exit to windows and start up NV again.
