Joining The Legion early?

Post » Fri Nov 05, 2010 2:20 am

I decided to play an "evil", intelligent, cannibal who punches everyone to death. I'm going with the legion over NCR, but all I ever find on my path are NCR or other faction places. Still nothing on the legion. Any hints on a good place to hook up with and do some dirt for the legion?

My understanding is there aren't many quests for Legion...especially early on. Nipton a tiny one, maybe if you go to Nelson you can talk to DeadSea in one of the houses?
Tried going to Cottonwood Cove and talk to the Legion there?

While the game is skewwed more to the NCR than the Legion, there are a number of Legion quests, and they get a bit involved. There are a number of quests that overlap the NCR, so that you approach them differently as you are Legion even though you are talking to the same NPCs.

However, to get Legion quests started, you have to go to Cottonwood Cove and travel to the Fort to get the first quest. I would wait until you have followed the first act of the Main Quest and had your first meetings with Benny and Mr House. At that time, the Legion will invite you to the Fort. You don't need to do this, but it is a good way to get the game started without picking a side first.

Just because you work for the Legion, does not mean you have sided with them, until a certain point along the way, and that will be pretty obvious. So, even with your initial work with the Legion, the NCR can still be Nuetral/Friendly to you up until you start taking direct action against the NCR for the Legion.

Oh, and if you are going to work for the Legion, you will be limited in who you can use as a companion. For example, Boone and the Legion, not a good combination. Arcade may have issues too with this path.

Don't go out of your way to become Vilified with NCR right away, as you'll miss out on at least one Legion quest.

Spoiler
Instead of revealing the traitor at Camp McCarran, you can help him sabotage the monorail. He will be hostile if you're vilified with NCR and can see through disguises :/

The way I did was to stealth kill every NCR soldier up until Cottonwood... Just make sure you save the dog tags. Also make sure the game counts it as a stealth kill. It can be time consuming, but I found it fun, and was able to kill everyone in that outpost with the sniper Ghost on the building that was not in the bar. Also remember to pack at least 1 set of NCR armor...

The only real problem is when you get to the Strip. You will have to wear NCR faction while in the Strip or else they will attack, and the guard bots auto help the NCR :(. You will also have to remember to take off your NCR armor before fast traveling back to Caesar... I died so many times due to this.

Its true I had less XP from turning in quests, but the extra kills the NCR/Powdergangers/fiends/kings/boomers/khans/BoS/those silver rush folks netted me more then made up for it... man the Legion sure had a lot of enemies before I joined 'em.

TIP

After turning in a crap ton of dog tags to the Phoenix in Cottonwood, and getting your rep up... kill him. If you wait for him to go in the building you can stealth kill him, and gank his epic armor, and weapon. I RPed it as meeting the man, and finding him weak, killing him, and taking his stuff/job because I could do it better not being stuck behind a desk. Caesar would have wanted it that way ;) .

Thanks a lot for all the information. I found cottonwood cove and Nelson. The sniper's nest near cottonwood makes a nice little home. I'll get back to heading to Mr. House, I'm on the good side of the Khan's after boulderhill. Companions wise I'm pretty happy with ED-E. I was concerned the legion wouldn't open up enough as a side to play for, but thanks to the option to work for the powder gangers from the very start I figured it would work out.

Turned in 50 something dogtags at cottonwood, considering going after the tags in Mojave Outpost once I don't need them for repairs..

edit: I got vilified with NCR from the start by siding with Eddie and the powder gangers in the big showdown at the prison. So I would have missed out on that quest either way.

Two true legion quests before NV strip... Nipton and Nelson.
One paper route open challange at Cottonwood Cove to gather dasies collect NCR dogtags.
Then you have the over the rainbow Helios one quest and..
Help the pixies Khans out at Boulder City.

After this not much untill you hit the wizard palace NV strip and kill the lion Benny..
Where the big bad wolf Vulpes Inculta hands you the mark of caesar.
Which lets you into disneyland Fortification Hill the Legions main base in NV.

Where did you find them all ? I only know of 3 places, primm, mojave outpost and forlorn. I really need more tags.
I dont want to kill everyone in forlorn, because I cant 1 hit them silently. So that would be hard, especially when trying to stay good with ncr.

I killed everyone in Forlon, and I've hit all the random groups patroling the wasteland or guarding a road checkpoint I've come across.
