There is a mission you do with the Boomers and you will get a mask that allows you to breath under water. It has been a great use since I got it.

Bring an old thread up.
Should have know to explore this bit at the time...I had the re-breather from the boomers quest, but did'nt explore this cave, just wanted to finish that quest. Is there anyway of getting the re-breather back because after that quest, the re-breather was taken away from me..

Just curious: is there any way to get the rebreather if you kill the Boomers?

Kind of annoying for any evil characters...

Why was it taken away from you? I finished the boomer quest line long time ago and I still have the rebreather.

Are you sure it's actually gone? Its name in the list is grayed out and easy to miss. They don't take it back and it is marked as a Quest item, so you can't drop it or sell it. Did you forget it's int he Apparel section?

Choices ==> Consequences.

Being an evil character cuts you off from a lot of the game. Art imitates life.

Why do they grey out items in your list? iirc they only did that in FO3 with weapons & armour that were in very bad conditon. But I selected it and it was there... very puzzling this approach to greying out... the item if its usable should be there or not..

I can only agree. There is no rhyme or reason to gray out the Rebreather.

Just do the quest. Isn't that why you bought the game? To do quests?

when you recieve it it's a quest item, Boone's beret is the same before he exchanges it for a 1st recon beret

Yes not sure for positive but most / all candy quest related clothing is.
That and apart from Boones hat seem stuck in your inventory unless you say the magic word use the console to remove them.

The only reason I can think of is you don't want to drop a quest item.

Other than you never want to be without it, since it does not seem to weigh anything.

I can drop the First Recon Beret if I want. I never do, but I could...

I think they mean the actual greyed out "Boone's Beret' item that he gives you to fulfill the actual quest, not the reward "1st Recon Beret" after. They're different - the latter is just a plain ol' clothes item, not a 'quest item'. Once you hire Boone, his own beret that you can remove is also just a normal clothing item.

Yes thank you Lady Crimson.
First recon berets taken from any source such as the McCarran mob, and Boones reward are plain ol' hats.
However Caleb McCarthy' hat, and MotorRunners polished helmet are all essential and can not be dropped..
Seemingly they also can't be taken by the quest givers either, apart fom Boone's wonder hat switch'aroo.
