More than one disc?

Post » Wed Nov 24, 2010 1:19 pm

Are we thinking that Skyrim will be released on more than one disc. Say you download disc one onto your hard drive and data wise it contains as much infromation as was present on the Oblivion disc plus having the same amount of content on disc 2 which is the disc you will play it from. I am just curious as it would surely mean the game is longer and has more depth in every aspect quests, dialouge, weapons, characters etc. Or is there are larger possibilty of it being shipped on 1 disc.

P.S if it were on 2 discs not to be implemented in the way it was in Mass Effect 2 where you had to change discs half way through, how bad was that.

Just a thought I know no one know the answer for sure but I am hoping it comes on a couple of discs!

I'm pretty sure that would mean that you can't do things from disk one while on 2 and vice versa, kinda like no backtracking, That makes me doubt it, and I'm sure that is something that would cut immersion if it just came up and said "Insert disk 2", though I'm not an immersion freak (no offense to those who may be) so I don't know.

Make an optional hard drive install available to 360 players. Most 360 players probably do have a hard drive and if not, they could still play the game (I don't know how they could most efficiently split the game, though.). If they don't have a hard drive, they should have known they were getting less when they went for the cheaper version of the 360.

Only one disc for all systems unless you buy an addon with the official game.

Too many assets are used repeatedly throughout the world, making it nearly impossible to swap disks without repeating the same data on each disk (which would be wasteful). That leaves installing a portion of it onto the HD as the only option for dealing with multiple disks. Unfortunately, because Microsoft saw fit to release an Xbox 360 version with a whopping 4gb HD, mandatory installs are not allowed. So, the entire game will have to fit on a single DVD.

Well on the xbox 360 which is what I played Oblivion on when I downloaded the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine from the Game of the Year Edition disc you were able to backtrack whenever you wanted because the data was saved to your hard drive and somehow connected to your current save file. I'm no computer expert so I don't know how but I know it's possible. I will prob be getting Skyrim for PC this time round though

Not sure if I got what you meant...something like, downloading the full two disk sized game onto the hard drive and playing it off of there? That would likely work and I'd be all for that, though I prefer actual disks (Xbox player, please don't hate me :( ). If you meant getting both disks and downloading one to the hard-drive I don't think that works, but again I'm no expert.
That said, I'd be happy with downloading it if it meant more content, so long as quality is not sacrificed.

Edit- @ Twitch S Simons - I was actually about to disagree then I think it dawned on me.....I see what you mean and I stand corrected, my bad

I meant the latter. I still don't know how they could have the disk-switching thing work out for those who don't have hard drives, but honestly, and as selfish as this sounds, I really don't care, anymore. How many people actually own the ones without hard drives? L. A. Noire took up three DVDs (Or was it two?). How in the world are they going to get Skyrim on one?

I'd imagine Bethesda has some form of data management plan, at least I hope. Really can't do much more than that as far as I can see. And I never played LA Noire so I can't really imagine what made it three disks, and how that knowledge can connect to Skyirm. Also, as far as I know most 360 owners have a hard-drive, I only know one person who doesn't.

I'm not sure what made the size, either, but L. A. Noire is definitely a smaller game than Skyrim (or it should be, based on past Elder Scrolls games), so... I'm worried.

Why would anyone not have a hard drive?
