Daily/weekly challenges

Post » Thu Feb 24, 2011 8:16 pm

One thing I really like that's been done in another game is he daily and weekly challenges in halo: reach. They give you four things to do on a list that are each worth a different amount of in-game credits, plus one extra-hard challenge that you have a week to do that's worth a butt-load more. At the start of every day the challenges reset and you now have more things to do to keep the game fun. If something like this could be done in skyrim it'd be awesome, but instead of credits it could give you experience points or in-game gold. It'd definitely keep me playing the game a whole lot longer after I've beaten all the quests and gotten all the achievements.

Some examples of challenges could be:

daily challenges:
  • Create 5 restore health potions today- +200xp
  • Kill 10 cave rats today- +300xp
  • Kill an ice troll without taking any damage to your health- +300xp
  • Successfully pickpocket 50 gold from unsuspecting people- +200xp

weekly challenge:
  • Slay 200 enemies this week- +1000xp

Just an example of one set of challenges that would change every day. It'd really help keep the game interesting in my opinion and it's what I'd most love to see in skyrim.

Uh, nah. I don't want the Bethesda gods pressuring me into doing certain tasks. I have a completionist attitude, and if I can do them I will. This extra incentive is pointless in a sandbox game. It pushes players in a certain direction.

Why, who keeps these challenges on tab?
How do we get gold out of no where for doing a random task?

Why would we get more xp for certain tasks on certain days?

You need a way to make this idea more organic in the RPG world of TES.
Even then I don't really care for the idea that much.

I don't think this would be appropiate for a TES game. It's too symbolic, I mean how you justify that your character suddenly feels the need to slay 200 enemies? (besides being a psycho).

The only way I see them integrating it would be for someone for instance your guild superior to set these challenges. Even with this I don't think it would work particularly well.

it's not that it's a bad idea, it's just that it wouldn't work for XP because, guess what: there's NO XP in TES!!
and that would also penalise players who don't have access to the internet at home, as their charater growth would be much slower (unless it was randomly generated in-game)

well, if it's implemented properly, I have no objections, but it probably won't, so no thanks

Hooray for overcoming pettiness and hoping that the game is phenomenal on all platforms and not trying to offload stupid suggestions on to one particular group. Thanks dude, you are the glue that holds this community together.

Implemented properly you say? Ah, well then, who could object to such a detailed proposal?

THERE IS EXP IN TES (in skyrim, but otherwise appears as skill development)

Wow why so pessimistic, no need to assume what I mean, whats written/typed is typed without anything behind it.

Consoles are normally suited to connected to the internet, achievements are abound as well, PC's aren't really in that field and I'd rather my comp not having another reason to stay connected to the internet. if the community breaks because of the thoughts of a single individual, then that isnt much of a community. im sure you know how long these boards have been standing, and they have a myriad of different oppinions. may these boards continue to do so.

such is in the right field for consoles, in my OPINION this isnt really much of an incentive.

Recurring generic quests are specifically targeted at the OCD crowd. But they already have their own game, WoW.

I saw this topic, immediately knew it was a Reach fan, and also knew that he had joined in the last couple of days.

Turns out I was right; damn, I'm getting good at this.

instead of it being implemented the way halo reach did it, what would be nicer is perhaps monthly *free* updates that revolve around a newspaper - there could be a wanted section, for example ' keen imperial scholar seeks 'insert rare lore book here' type thing. Of course, these radiant story quests might eliminate need for such a thing. Infact, brainstorm, what would be really cool, is if these radiant story quests got replaced with new ones say every couple of months -that would really keep the game fresh

Look, I love Halo, but I really don't think that Skyrim is a game where daily/weekly challenges would fit in.
