it was way to easy for me to kill everything in the game on medium difficulty, by swinging the biggest bluntest axe i could find until nothing moved.

So, I came across this on UESP the other day.

"The Maormer are known as Sea Elves or Tropical Elves. They reside on the island of Pyandonea, south of the continent of Tamriel. They have pale, almost chameleon-like skin and yellow eyes. It was originally believed that they had lived in the Altmer home of Summerset Isle and were exiled, but tapestries found in the Crystal Tower of Alinor reveal an enmity going back so far as to make that theory impossible. Their leader is an immortal wizard named Orgnum Thras. The Maormer practice a snake-like magic which they use to tame sea-serpents."

Yes to Sea Serpents!

The only problem I see with this is that's on the southern side of Tamriel not the Northern side where Skyrim is...

I imagine Tamriel as North America, where the waters to the north around Skyrim aka Alaska/Canada are very cold and the waters to the south around Elsweyr, Black Marsh, Valenwood aka near Florida/Mexico (the equator) are warmer. That's assuming the tropical land means the waters are warmer as well. Why wouldn't it?

I would think the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Creatures would be better suited then these Sea Serpents.

My steps were examples, not an actual battle plan. What you described is pretty much what I was trying to explain, enemies should have visible weaknesses that players skilled in any certain area can exploit, through a multitude of means. Not only would this allow for many different types of mob, but also more variety between fighting styles used.

I kinda suggested weaknesses already. But actually I hear some already have weakness's.

A lot of Duplicate threads with polls about creatures and creature variety have been made lately, so im bumping this one I made a long time ago.

In Oblivion, I always felt as though I kept seeing the same creatures despite the vastness of the world. Perhaps, I'm a little bias, but I felt there was a lack of variety. When I first played, I felt as though everything was great. Then, shortly after that first ten hours of gameplay and exploring, I realized I kept seeing the same things. Then, if I wanted to see anything different, I had to level.

There seemed to be a generic mob of creatures.(might be bias) The real problem though was the lack of new encounters or spawning. Say, I was level 17. I could expect what would be in a dungeon waiting for me. Oh, they'll be some land dreughs and my boss fight will be an Ogre. No surprises. I already know what I'm getting into. Plus, they're always in the same spawn area. Those aspects damaged the immersion while exploring new areas. New dungeon. Same spawned creatures.

Then, when I hit the level cap for creatures. I'm always fighting the minotaur lord, storm atronach, lich, and other high level creatures. I lost the ability to fight other creatures that I had liked and was stuck with the same boring cast after a while. The leveling of the creatures was bogus too. Maybe I just want to walk into a dungeon at level 1 and get flat out destroyed by a troll. That makes me think twice before going back in there.

I do have high hopes for Skyrim though. The battle system should make the fighting more invigorating and enticing. The AI makes a creature more dynamic so even though I may be seeing the same one, it feels different due to its responses to me.

My personal preference is seeing a Hydra in the Elder Scrolls Skyrim. I have always been interested in conspiracies, such as the ones related to the start of man from serpent people from space, and the presence of dragons/serpents/nagas/hydras being recorded as living creatures in almost every ancient culture around the world. Its something i love to depict in art, and its a hole 'nother level seeing them put into 3d.

Lot's of good ideas! I wish they added the moskox and the caribou! I like your idea about the norse witches. I find the draugr a good compensation to the "oblivion" style zombies.

Ice Wraiths are probably Bethesda's take on them but with a Elder Scrolls twist.

Diversity is the key to interesting encounters. That doesn't necessarily mean that there needs to be 100 species, but that they get some area where you can find them.

In Oblivion, mountain lions are near Anvil, near IC, near Leyawiin... Different species in different regions. That would be nice!
