My Nord should be able to look like http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.newskorner.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Jeremiah-Johnson.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.newskorner.com/jeremiah-johnson/3212768/&h=350&w=294&sz=64&tbnid=nOnkloNasUlLbM:&tbnh=120&tbnw=101&prev=/search%3Fq%3Djeremiah%2Bjohnson%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=jeremiah+johnson&usg=__RMaP82p5YdqpqRsYVgmSK5KU10A=&sa=X&ei=EyDbTbXkPIyctwem8L2zDw&ved=0CFEQ9QEwAw.

If I get braided and forked beards, facial tats (which have pretty much been confirmed), and greater variety in eye color, I will be a happy person.

EYE COLOR. My god, I hope they increase the variety of eye color. It was awful in Oblivion.

Was the "green" setting even really green? I always thought it looked yellow. :(

Yes, only this Bosmer wouldn't be a pure Bosmer, it'd be a hybrid, and unfortunately I don't think we're going to see hybrid characters in any ES games.

I've always wondered what a biracial ES character would look like. Imagine a person with one Khajiit parent and one Argonian parent. That kid would look weird.

Oblivion is my favorite game of all time, but the fact that four people so far have called Oblivion's character creation good absolutely floors me...

Oh my [hidden] .. if they don't let us have beard then I will be very disappointed!
And I mean real beard, like with real volume, not just a texture slapped on the face.

Well, the Dovahkiin Nord in the official trailer looks to have at least some fuzz on his chin. So that sort of confirm facial hair if not full blown beards. I'm pretty confident though considering FO3 had a decent selection.

Customization in Oblivion was pretty poor. Lots of options, but you had to spend ages fiddling around to end up with something remotely good looking.

I fear they may go the opposite direction with Skyrim - good looking default races, but limited options.

Not that it matters too much. What Bethesda get wrong, mods will fix.

Oblivion's character creation phase was OK, but some defaults were at fault, and for instance a decent looking Bosmer was hard to achieve, and in general it was really hard to make decent faces by tweaking those lots and lots of sliders, but it gave me the satisfaction that I could control every tiny aspect of the face.

In a modded Morrowind game, I could easily pick a face from lots and lots of pre-made beautiful faces and combine it with my pick of lots and lots of stylish pre-made hairs and beards and be done with it, quite easy, and with great results, but limited.

Fallout's character generation phase was outright rubbish, and I could not make any faces that I distantly liked, and they all became similar ugly faces with little difference, although I could tweak it a bit, but in the end it did not make any difference, and the eye colors did not show any difference, and the only distinct identity was made facial hairs.

I would probably start with a sneaky, poisonous male Bosmer assassin/ranger character.

I'll be happy as long as they have good beards, and good long hair choices for -both- genders.

The only reason I can think of that poster-boy Dovahkiin has no beard is to attract female gamers.

It sort of looks like he has chin scruffle and a soul patch though, right?

Are you saying that women don't like facial hair?

High Elf, Breton, Imperial and Redguard isn't popular on the votes at all. People do seem to like the Nord for some reason I don't know...

Most will just play a Nord first exclusively for the MQ and to get a feel of the environment of the Nords which can be easier when you are that race.

Edit: My main characters are a Breton, a Bosmer, and a Dunmer, but I will also be making a Nord first for the above stated reasons.

Or play as another race to feel like you are a foreigner visiting another country.

I love how in that video, during the sequences where you're close in on Matt's head, some of the book titles on the shelf behind him are visible. Right next to the book "The Viking World" is one titled "Samurai" and toward the left end of the shelf was a Frazetta compendium. Mixing and adapting influences like that will help to give the nords a character unique from that of the vikings/norse.
