Unofficial "Is [insert game here] any good?"

You can ride the dragon in the PC Drakan game. I don't know how similar it is to the PS2 one, but that is the only dragon controlling game I am aware of.

Yeah, the PS2 game's manual mentions control schemes for dragon movement and combat, indicating that at some points, you can control the dragon (I forgot his name). The other games I mentioned involve dragon-riding, but most of them I don't like (either because the controls svck, or I don't like the style).

Oh! And that new Divinity game, the Ego Draconis thing. You turn into a dragon in that one, right?

Oops. When I typed "fighting with" I meant "fighting as"/"fighting via", not "fighting against." :P

So far, the only games I'm aware that have this:
Drakan: The Ancient's Gates (PS2) - well, I already expressed my thoughts about this
Savage Skies (PS2) - wonderful concept, hideous execution. I shed a tear for what might have been. *sniff*
Dragon Rage (PS2) - I never tried renting it. Fighting against tanks and army men doesn't really appeal to me.
Drakengard (PS2) - played 5 minutes of it before I gave up. Sometimes in medias res can be effective; in this game, it is not.
Lair (PS3) - well, I don't have a PS3 now, do I? I know, it got crap reviews, but a patch was eventually released that addressed the main complaint.
Neverwinter Nights SoU/HotU: Shifter class can turn into a dragon at high levels. Not as almighty and foe-crushing as I would have liked.
EDIT:
and some PC game called "I of the Dragon" - anyone know if it is any good?

I don't know anything about the game but it says you get to be a dragon.

Divinity II: Ego Draconis is actually the sequel of Divine Divinity.
Yep, you can become a dragon yourself. It's an action based rpg from the belgian developer Larrian Studios.

About Sacred: there is also Sacred 2, which is different from the first sacred. It doesn't look like diablo anymore, although it is still a hack&slash game.
Oh and with the expansion Ice & Blood you can play with the dragon mage. The dragon mage can call dragon powers, like being transforming into a dragon, call a pet dragon and call a dragon to burn the foes. He has also powers of the elements and normal magic.

Ooooo, sounds fun! Is there any plot/story? Does my character get to make dialog decisions (like in Neverwinter Nights), or do I just listen to NPCs and not say anything (like Titan Quest)? I have so many games I need to finish, I'm hesitant about picking up one of those "endless" games where it never really concludes, you just keep killing stuff and leveling up until you get bored and play a different video game or watch TV or something.

There is no real plot that I've seen in Sacred 2. It's like a Diablo 2 clone with a huge overworld to explore.

I guess I'm under the false assumption that Diablo 1/2 has a plot. I bought a comic book that featured stories of a few Diablo characters... I'm guessing such character development and plots don't really happen in that game?

Not really. As a better comparison, since it's a game you've played, Titan Quest is also of the "Diablo clone" genre. Your character is mainly just a vehicle for your monster-killing, having no lines or development, and the plot mainly exists so the NPC's have a reason to tell you to go to the next area.

There is a story yes, but not that it plays a big role like in The Witcher. Well, there aren't dialog deciscions, except accept and decline.
You just get your quest, finished it and claim your reward. Most of the time it's just slaying enemies. Like i said; it's a hack&slash game, which means chop till you drop. One warning though; the enemies will spawn fast. However, there are some quests which are different. Sometimes you just must fetch some items or escorting a person and be sure they survive. And then there is a quest where blind guardian is involved. You choose at the start from six prefab characters, which all have unique skills. With ice & blood a seventh is added. You also choose if you do the ligth or shadow campaign (except with the seraphim and inquisitor. seraphim is only light, inquisitor is only shadow) and you choose a deity. Since ice & blood you can change the hair, hair colour and skin colour. You can play the game at several difficulties. From the beginning you can only choose bronze & silver, but if you beat the game at silver you unlock gold and there is also niobium. There are tons of items to get, also unique ones and legendary (which is very rare to get) and there are complete sets for each character, based on their CA's. There is a mainquest, sidequests and character specific quests. And there are also bosses. Ancaria is pretty huge and is divided into several regions. You start at the high elven region Tyr Lysia. The main soundtrack is made by the german metal band Blind Guardian, as also the combat music. The game uses your standard rpg music when exploring (flute/piano, you know it)
It's not a direct Diablo clone. It's a game on it's own.

There is a plot. You either save Ancaria or let it turn into chaos. Not that it plays a big role, but there is a story where you strike for. Much more then diablo 2 if you ask me, where it is just about the reïncarnation of the prime evils.
And it's not a Diablo 2 clone. Diablo 2 looks totally different. The only thing they have in common it's that both are hack & slash. Overall Sacred 2 is a different game then Diablo 2.

Has anyone played Just Cause 2? I played the demo, and it was excellent. I think its basically what Farcry 2 should've been like, but it mixes destructive elements and sandbox elements from grand theft auto. I think the system they have created for the game would be great in a super hero game, as the stuff this Al Pacino looking guy does is pretty super human like.

Anyways, the game makes action so easy to pull off, the graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay/gun play is great. It has a repetitive factor, and i'm worried if it falls into the same hole as Farcry 2 in that sense.

I know a guy who's high up in the deal there(manager or somthing),I talked to him and explained that Anna(my girlfriend,he knows her) had ended up at Movieland(the place that went out of buisness) and had found those for crazy cheap.

He just laughed and took 'em all-I'm sure they make a killing off buying used copies of MW2 for only $25 anyways.

From what I recall, the bad reviews seem to mostly stem from complaints that the controls are sluggish. I remember reading that the dev's wanted it that way to simulate the hugeness of the dragon (no lightning fast reflexes). Several/many months after release, the developers relented and released a patch that un-sluggishified the flight controls. If you read reviews, try ones that are recent (after the patch was released). If you can, try to rent it; if it has a demo, try playing that. I think because it initially did so poorly with reviewers (and players), the game probably won't be very expensive (??).

Downloading Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for PC from Steam for 9.99 as we speak.

Can't wait really, I love all the SC games and this is a perfect warm up for Conviction. I've never really played a SC game on the comp, though, only XBOX. It's gonna be a big change in controls.... :P

The PC version isn't a bad port, is it?

How is the online play with the PS3 version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2? I'm pretty certain my old beater of a rig wouldn't run the PC version very well.

It was OK. The tank mission was bloody hard though, don't think I ever got past it.
