Which is better: Nerf, Airsoft or Paintball

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:10 pm

I wonder what is better when it comes to re-enacting warlike combat while using non-leathal weapons (Paintball could be fatal if it's used inappropriately).

Nerf: It's fun but the blasters are brightly colored. Nothing says tatical stealth mission then a squad with neon yellow blasters comming your way.

Airsoft: I would love to get into doing this or Nerf if only I knew the right people. Anyway the guns used in airsoft look a little closer to the real thing and it won't brank the bank to much.

Paintball: Buying a PB Gun can be VERY pricy not only that but buying Co2 tanks or cartiges and getting hit by a paintball could hurt.

I still would love to get into a three of these (if only I knew the right people), IMO Nerf and Airsoft would be fun to get into...Paintball to me looks more like a once in a lifetime thing---but that's just me. Anyway what do you guys (or gals) think.

Airsoft is best for competitive play, nerf just svcks(IMO), and paintball is to messy. My friend and his family live out in the country and have tons of airsoft guns and love playing it, so he always has a bunch airsoft battles for his birthday, so airsoft is easily my favorite.

I've never used airsoft other than a crappy pistol my buddy bought at Canadian Tire. Paintball is really fun, don't own anything but have gone for the day a few times to some of the places near me. Sure it "hurts" in the sense that it definitely isn't a nice feeling, but it isnt horribly painful. Just painful enough that its fun to see your friends wince.

As for nerf, I wouldnt even classify it with those two, nerf are toys you buy for little kids.

Paintball, pricey but totally worth it. I've only ever used [censored] airsoft guns when I was like twelve. Nerf is Kids stuff, at least being as I'm twenty I can enjoy paintball and not look like a child.

Paintballing, definitely.

Yes it's quite expensive, but not as expensive as people make it out to be (at least not where I live). It depends how often you go and how long you play for. Half a day a month is fine, but going weekly is maybe a bit much if you can't afford it, unless you only play for a couple of hours at a time.

As for the pain, it's really not that bad at all unless you get some idiot who thinks it's funny to unload a whole cartridge of paintballs on you at close range. I find that the pain adds a determination not to get hit, therefore increasing the realism and competition.

I'm going to be the purple giraffe in the room and say Nerf :D I'm not one to take any sport seriously and its much easier to have a "not-so-serious" time with a hectic nerf gun fight with a few of the neighborhood kids. I've played paintball a few times and I like it, but some people get too into it and forget that its just a game, but I can see why some people get into it like they do its just like any other hobby I suppose. And Airsoft I've only used my pistol for target shooting but playing against people sounds odd because how do you know if you hit the person? Do you just have to trust them to be a fair sport and admit when they're out?

Paintball, as long as you play it safe and aren't playing with trigger happy 10-year olds. Airsoft can be fun too. I hate Nerf. The darts fly 10 feet and don't stick like they're supposed to.

My school had a big Nerf War between all of the high schoolers a couple months back. It was pretty epic, so I'm going to say you go with Nerf.

I like paintball, but it can be expensive.

I also like airsoft, but it is impossible to tell who has been hit.

Nerf has never had any real appeal to me.

Been playing paintball since I was 7. And must say I've enjoyed it alot. Also the guns are very durable unlike airsoft (saying this from personal experience and that off my friends). Yes, paint can get quite expensive. But CO2 is quite cheap, I think you can get a 20 oz CO2 tank for about 20 bucks and refills are not expensive. Though most people mot people use HPA (high pressure air) these days. I have use HPA and refill it at home out of my scuba tank. HPA is alot more reliable and cleaner (if you shoot fast enough liquid CO2 will come out since it cannot convert to gas fast enough).

And honestly, paintball hits don't hurt that bad, they just look bad.

That's because it isn't a hobby for some people. It is a competitive sport just like football or hockey, of course people are going to be serious about it.

nerf for friendly lulz, dikeing around, and it's the cheapest, sorta, depending on the gun.
Painball if you want to be competitive as act as tactically as possible, almost militaristic with strategy and stuff. Though it'll cost more, and the more intense players will carry some expensive stuff. Also messy and more painful.
Airsoft is an in-between of nerf and painball, imo. They can range from crap to pretty nice. My brother got an AK-47 replica, which was fun to fire off. The problem was that the battery died quick and did cost a bit of a pretty penny. Was able to fire off semi-auto and full auto, which was fun. Got a gun, which could fire pretty far. Accidentally nailed my brother in the eye in the distance of an acre, and he wasn't too happy about that.

I prefer paintball. I never wore a helmet because my breath would fog up the visor.

I don't see what makes airsoft so tactical. If anything I'd run in guns blazing.

Nerf isn't real.

Amen. I coached my buddies team for a while. We eventually got sponsored by the local field we played at, which basically amounted to being able to reserve a field any time we wanted as long as we called ahead a day(free), free CO2 refills, half-price cases of paint, and Tournament fees paid as long as we placed, which we usually did. Unfortunately, there was a major spat amongst a couple of members and the team ended up falling apart(bad enough that the players who were left have sworn off competitive play forever). It's a fun sport, but it's definitely competitive, even at the lowest levels(we weren't even Amateurs, just novices really, though if we had kept at it we were getting close to being ranked in the Amateur leagues). Ahhh, good memories and better times with ye olde Redneck Assassins ^^(which was even funnier as every last one of our members were rednecks through and through).

Paintball, the fact that it hurts is part of what makes it awesome.

Though the price can be an issue, especially if you're young and in school.
