Getting into Morrowind

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 1:14 am

So I didn't really get into RPGs until the 360 came out and Oblivion was one of the first I played. I've been reading and all over people have said how amazing Morrowind is, so I picked up the GOTY edition a while back and played it for like 2 hours and haven't picked it up again for some reason.

Now that the new Elder Scrolls V game has been annouced I really want to experience this game. Should I play it on my original Xbox or would my Xbox 360 adequetly play it? PC is out of the question btw.

And is there anything I should know before I restart it? I'm making a new character once I finish my playthrough of F:NV and do everything I want.

Thank you guys for any help!

Some http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Starting_out (minor spoilers)

It will run on the 360, but many people seem to find that it runs better on the original Xbox.

Yeah, running on the 360 works, but is suffers from longer load times (at least on startup) and the save/load screen is a little glitchy sometimes. Otherwise it should run fine, although I would recommend playing it on a normal Xbox.

Here's some guides too.

To be honest, you should just start playing and not worry about your character's build, starting tips, etc. Just play. Give yourself ten hours of playtime to make a decision. It's a slow burner, but ten hours should be enough for you to know for sure if Morrowind is for you or not.

I heard the same about performance suffering on the Xbox 360 but I had none, the intro video does take a little wile to load but for me everything else actually loaded incredibly faster on the Xbox 360.

Also I half agree with EvilFish1, You should give yourself 10 hours and just play but, I would suggest at least getting a fairly decent build going to start with so look up a basic thief, warrior, or Mage build for Morrowind to get you started.

From my experience, the 360 is slower in both versions of the game. I have better performance from the original Xbox. Better yet is to play it on the PC, though, because there are some infamous bugs that can ruin your game.. getting stuck in scenery, having characters disappear (usually they glitch through a wall or floor), thus rendering quests impossible to complete.. it's rare, but pretty unpredictable. On the PC, you can use the construction set and in-game console to fix them easily, but on the xbox you're pretty much screwed.

As for a beginning character, I'm pretty biased toward a melee character: Nord with Axe, or Redguard with Long Blade. If you want an all-around character, pick a Dark Elf. One big difference in the fighting mechanics from Oblivion is that you can miss your opponent - and will, a lot - at low levels. Try to get a melee skill high right away, by customizing your character. Likewise with an armor skill. If you're just getting into the game, don't worry too much about magic and most of the personality skills. Restoration and Alteration are the spells you will probably use most. Save frequently, because you don't autosave everytime you enter a new area.
