How good are the DLCs?

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 7:49 pm

So, i just got the game and was wondering how good the DLCs were and what point to do them at (after the MQ, or in the middle)

What are each DLC about?

I don't use any of them. I don't think they're nearly as well-made as user-made plugins.

In my opinion they are fine. There is very little content offered in any of them, but since so many mods make use of them and they are essentially bug-free just install them ignore them. Don't treat them like "oh now i gotta go do a dlc quest or whatever" (as you would with the expansion packs or a story-based mod) just play the game with them installed and you might run into a couple of extra quests because thats all they are. I always use them, but they dont add much to the game to be honest.

The Area effect arrows plugin might be worth bothering with, if you're the archer type. The Siege of Firemoth had a decent scenario, but poor balancing. It was remade by a modder as The Ward of Akavir mod. Quite improved, but for high level characters only, low levels will die there. Apart from that...meh.

Bitter Coast Sounds is what it's all about. It's like playing a whole new game!

To respond seriously however, the Morrowind DLC was originally more of a demonstration of what could be done with the CS. Since then they've really been overshadowed by user-made mods, but they can still be useful or fun depending on your gaming preference.

But since they don't actually cost anything, why not just download them and find out for yourself? All can be activated from the get-go, but I'd recommend getting a mid-to-high level character before starting the combat oriented ones, and definitely a high-level character for the Siege at Firemoth.

If you mean tribunal and bloodmoon then yeah get them..

tribunal adds a new city, huge network of sewer/cave dungeons to explore, a weapon merchant with 10'000 gold, the awesome royal guard armour.

bloodmoon adds a new snowy island north of Khuul, good to have just to explore, the main quest is a bit meh... make sure you have plenty of mark/recall potions for that one.

Going with Do'tirath in thinking you probably mean the Expansions. Both are definitely worth getting. Tribunal is Technically supposed to happen after the Main Quest (Or so I believe) due to how some characters refer to you and whatnot, but it can be done any time you please. For Bloodmoon, I'd recommend a moderately leveled character for it, but it can also be done any time, such as any other quest in Morrowind.

Tribunal concerns going to the city of Mournhold in response to an assassination attempt on you, which then unfolds into a much larger plot.

Bloodmoon is about going to the Island of Solsthiem to help with the problems of an Imperial Fort, help begin a new settlement, or plunder the land itself. You also get to fight naked nords and bears.

Since Tribunal and Bloodmoon were not released in downloadable packages (excluding Steam version), I think it's safe to assume he's talking about the downloadable Plug-ins.

BC Sounds and Area-Effect Arrows are the only two I use anymore. (BC Sounds is essential IMO)
The others might add new content, but there are mods that do the same thing much better. No harm in getting them all though, they are small and free.

I like the master propylon index plugin. Nice way to go about questing and a useful reward.

I'd say that's probably correct. Still, if you do, in fact, mean the expansions, then I'd say definitely get them. They add lots of new content to the game in the form of new quests, new locations to explore, new items, and so on, and that, I would say, makes them quite worthwhile. If you use the PC version and want to use mods, you'll also find that many mods require the expansions to play.

As to the official plugins, they're pretty basic, probably because since they were free, Bethesda didn't wan to invest in making some big, intricate thing out of them. And what they do has been done by many community mods as well, and I'd say there are mods that do it much better. Still, they're free and there's really no harm in getting them, they're just not something I'd be "Oh I must download this immediately!" over. I'd say if one or more of them looks like something you want or a mod you're using requires it for any reason (There aren't nearly as many mods that require the official mods as the expansions, of course, but I've seen a few), go ahead. Just don't expect to be completely blown away by what you see.

They're free, and the download size is small, so I'd recommend them. They don't add much, but the Master Propylon Index is useful, and Siege at Firemoth is a fun little quest.

They are fun, I love Siege at Firemoth. And they are all free so there is no reason not to download them.
