morrowind goty, ctd before reaching main menu screen

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 5:37 pm

I installed morrowind with all three expansions (goty edition) and it worked fine (windows xp), but then for some reason I had to uninstall, except I did a really bad uninstall, and got my self into a position where it thought the game was still installed when it wasn't. So I used some app to delete all the remnants of morrowind from my computer (although I don't think it affected the registry in any way? could It be I need to manually delete morrowind related files from the registry??), After running this app, it seemed to register that it was uninstalled, so I then went about reinstalling it. But instead of reinstalling all three expansions, I figured I might as well just install morrowind to check it works properly first. And low and behold it didnt - I can't get past the Bethesda screen onto the main menu without getting a ctd.
Any help would be massively appreciated, as I am gagging to play MW again, and am not the most tech-savvy of folk.

my ideas are (desperately) -

try installing all three expansions and see if it works (could this be a fix of some kind?)
or, reformat whole computer (yes Im an extremist, but I cant think of anything else to do)

It seems that you have a Windows registry issue here, so just install http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-cleaner/download/ to fix that registry and reboot your computer.
After that just install Morrowind+expansion as usual and launch the game. If that doesn't help you can always came back and post these files along with your loadorder. :)

both are found in the Morrowind folder
