Leveled Magicka

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 2:57 am

So I just recently stumbled across this hall of famed mod and I'm not too sure I agree on it.

People are saying: "This mod is great they should have made this in the game in the first place. Why should health stats rise every level and not magicka?"

But wouldn't this be considered cheating since the way to raise you magicka is by raising your intelligence? (which make sense to me); Your Mage gets more intelligent = More understanding of magicka = more magicka to play with.

What's everyone else thoughts?

Are there any Mage players who had maxed their intelligence and still found they had not enough magicka to utilize even with regeneration?
OR
Are you mages simply greedy for power and can't wait a second to regenerate?

I played a mage, and I found that it was very difficult at higher levels. Everything.. absolutely everything.. in bloodmoon has reflect. I also found myself running out a lot.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about with regeneration, cause in base morrowind there is no regeneration.

I play mages a lot, and I find it easy to get a magicka pool up to 3000. I just enchant everything I wear with fortify intelligence, and when I get to Solstheim, I grab the Mantle of Woe. I handle reflecting enemies by various methods, such as using lots of conjured helpers.

I can understand the motivation behind Leveled Magicka, and it is certainly one logical conclusion for fixing the magicka issues in Morrowind.

However, I don't favor the execution; I much prefer "Fair Magicka Regen," as I've been using for about the past year, to restore magicka at a reasonable rate rather than just increasing the base pool. In earlier times I used to think that perhaps magicka regenation would make playing a mage class unbalanced, but the truth is, it instead just makes the gameplay infinitely more natural -- no more resting constantly or drinking endless potions, just playing instead =)

As for concerns of "cheating" in either case, it is a single player game, so the only person that you can really cheat is yourself... and as I said, while I could understand considering something unbalanced, in practice something like Fair Magicka Regen polishes just one more flaw away from the underlying game mechanics.

I now have a magicka pool of around 1000 with lvl 40 which is okay. atronach sign is no prob if you make your own magicka potions. Till now there wasn't so much reflection but conjuration seems to be a good advice :)

i prefer reduced magicka costs, myself. it's more fitting as it's how it is handled in daggerfall and oblivion. you'll still need to have the magicka to cast a spell, but a large percentage is reduced when cast.
