How to fix Ed-E (Hostile}

Post » Thu Oct 09, 2008 2:04 pm

Does anyone know how to fix Ed-e after he turns hostile.

If you are fimilar with this bug, I had Boone, and Ed-E as companions, and one day both left for no reason, both returning to their locations.
Boone is back in Novac, and when I went to Primm for Ed-E I found him hostile, in Nash's resident. Attacking Nash too.

How can I 'recover' my Ed-E>

I read a method using Ranger Takedown, then entering convo, but Ed-E seems to be hostile no matter what I try.

Try reloading. My ED-E was hostile randomly in the Tops casino. (I find it strange that he only attacked the minorities. My ED-E was a racist apparently )

yup playing on xbox.
I've tried loading from previous saves. but no matter what I do, or where I go. It seems they get lost at the same time, and both go back to default location.
I've learned that Ed-E will not be hostile as long as I stay out of Primm, so that's what I've been doing. But I'm still trying to find a recovery method.

Go back to the save before they go AWOL. Dismiss them. Get a coupla other companions, do the mission where it breaks their script. Fire the new companions and then try to rehire them. See if that works.

Edit: BTW, you didn't say where they go berserk at. Were you working a quest, or is is just an area that you enter?

Well Im over going all the way back. I've had done too much sense then, what save I do have is 'moments before Ed-E turns Hostile'

I lost them when they weren't with me. I believe it was after the had loaded dead money. No matter what I do they leave.
I had them waiting in Novac, after dlc, I can't walk or fast travel to novac without them leaving.
So I let them go. And have gone on to do tons, without campanions. I have sense had Veronica, and Cass. and even Boone agian.

It wasn't until going back for Ed-E that I found Him turning Hostile the instant I entered Nash's residence. If I leave before Ed-E 'music' plays and starts attacking, He stays in the house, and will await me to come 'activate his hostility' later.

So I have a save game, within Primm where I have yet to go into Nash's residence.
(I haven't tried going to see Ed-E with another campanion with me, Id assume Ede with shoot us both)

I also read a solution that said something about going to Hidden Valley, and repairing something without Ed-E....
but I don't know what quest that is refferring too.

Should I just go on without Ed-E. and use him next time around?

Cause when I comes down to either loosing Johnson Nash or Ed-E, Im choosing Nash as he's a merchant.

Plus I always found Ed-E's humming as you walk, VEERY annoying.

Yup. Sound like you're out of luck. I guess the DLC screwed the pooch. My condolences, as ED-E is my fav. I would hate to lose him.
Edit: I just had a thought: Are you on hardcoe? If not, what happens if you "kill" him? If you knock him unconscious and then leave while he's down, I wonder if he would reset his state.

Get rid of any food or drink in ED-E, any npc's will take any food or drink from him when their AI reads as diner / lunch time.

He is not considered a NPC rather a creature so is not flagged as owning the items and free to take from, which sparks his hostile behaviour.

ED-E and Rex among some others are considered walking fridges, do not store food items in them.

Reload to an earlier save when not hostile and get rid of food in their inventories to fix.

Either pack your own lunch or give it to a humaniod NPC to carry.

I forgot to mention that Ed-E was completely empty. Especially no food.
and Im on hardcoe, so my only option is leaving Primm alone, or killing Ed-E to save the Nash couple.

If I turn off hardcoe, to knock Ed-E out, and all that, Does that ruin my hardcoe play through achievement????

Also If I load a old save, turn off hardcoe to test this, and fail..... then load back up a hardcoe only save... will my achievement not be affected?

Knowing all it took for this to occur, was having campanions be waiting back in Novac, after Dlc loads.....
I know this, cause I load up a prioir save, and I haev about 15mins of walking, or 1 fast travel, before they get lost. In this time, I can't do anything to affect the outcome.
Im really impressed they let a glitch like this through. Like don't they test thing these days.

Yeah. If you turn off hardcoe to knok him out, you're screwed. Get some boxing gloves and try that. You might have no problem loading that old save to test the theory, and then load your hardcoe save back up, though. (Disclaimer: Don't send ED-E after me if I'm wrong, though. I might be completely wrong on this. Don't know how XBL monitors the saves. PC dude here.)

Damn I'm sorry, the achievment should still be available if you load up an earlier save if it fails to work I think.
All I can say is try for hardcoe on other play through if not, I know it sounds callous but this bug is going to ruin your enjoyment one way or another,
It's better to enjoy the game with the companions you want than to have to play through a bugged save for a trophy imo.
I'm really sorry truefully, I do hope you get this fixed.

Thanks for all your help, but I've made up my mind. Ed-E dies!
That's what he gets for ruining my high volume radio listening, while his humming as he follows.
I like to walk around listening to tunes, not his noisy hum all day.

Me and him have had some issues over the travelling, to the point where he was being left at safehouses.

So I might as well embrace my 'new' fate with this bugged save. Ed-E is a terrorist that must be stopped before the destruction of Primm.

So long....

One more idea is, perhaps later on, after I complete Dead Money.... maybe he'll settle down.
I'll most like leave Primm alone, and have him 'about to be hostile' until later, and maybe an update.

If ur still here... Do those have the same effect as the unarmed Ranger Takedown attack. which I tried. Ed-E goes down, as red, and stay red until up again.

I was just checking the wiki. Boxing Gloves don't work on robots. Crap. Looks like you're back to making ED-E an oil stain on the floor.

Without getting into too many spoilers.... Was 'Ed-e My Love' quest interesting? thats the main reason I want him, to do quest, otherwise I planned on dumping him anyways... because of his travel noise.

It seemed to be getting pretty interesting - Ed-e has a few secrets about him, but I couldn't find out the full story due to a catastrophe within a certain faction (how elusive am I eh?).

PS His humming and battle music is a bit annoying but he's worth keeping onto IMO, a shame he has to die (though maybe the patch sorted it for you?).. Rex is amazing too though - I want to do some more tinkering with that mutt.

It's actually rather short once you know how to get it to trigger. I do love the upgrades he gets and since my current idiot has a 1 INT and PER, I really need him. No Rex on this playthrough.

If ED-E waits too long and returns to Primm, he becomes hostile. This occurs both on the X-Box and the Computer. There is no way to fix this problem on the X-Box, but the with the Computer you can use command codes.

(Reposted from DLC forum)

I GOT ED-E BACK!

Sorry to shout, but this makes me very, very happy.

Here's how to do it (thanks to the Wiki) --
This assumes ED-E is back in Primm, waiting for you to show up so he can kill the Nashes.

1) Go to the Nashes door in Primm.
2) Ready your weapon or fists.
3) Take Turbo (Optional -- I don't know if it matters or not)
4) Save. You'll be returning to this save a LOT unless you are very lucky.
5) Enter the door, steadily clicking on your VATS button or key.
6) After the load screen you will have one of the Nash family in your sights. Switch over to ED-E and you will see he is tagged non-hostile.
7) Here's where luck comes in. On very rare occasions he will be close to you, within conversation range. If he isn't, reload until he is. Alternately, and this MAY be where the Turbo comes in, you can push forward to move to him quickly.
8) You have to drop out of VATS and initiate conversation with him in the split second before he becomes hostile. It seems impossible but it WILL work if you persevere. I didn't count but I'm guessing it took me about 30 to 40 tries.
9) When you have managed to talk to him, initiate the companion protocol. He will still show red if you try to talk to him inside the building; he's fine after that.
10) Congratulations! You have now regained your friendly flying footlocker, and all is well with the world.

No more :sadvaultboy:
All is :disguise:
