What is your Nat Type? How many Bars do you have?

Post » Sun Oct 19, 2008 5:46 pm

I just want to get an idea of the proportion of people with Moderate Nat Vs Open Nat and how many players have a 4 bar connection.

I haven't got the game yet but I was playing mostly 2-3 bar with moderate Nat on the Demo, although I didn't find lag too much of an issue most of the time.

So what is you Nat type/connection like?

I'm stuck at Moderate even though my NAT is listed as Open with other games. I generally have 1-3 bars.

Correct me if I'm wrong but

Nat type one (OPEN) means you are connected straight to the modem / internet source
Nat type two (MODERATE) means you are connected to a router witch is connected to a modem.
Nat type 3 (STRICT) means you are connected to a router witch is connected to a modem and you have firewall / closed ports.

I wired my PS3 directly to my modem to get Nat type one and i changed to open but i still get a range of 1 bar to full bars. On other games i have full bars all the time

15 mb download 1 mb upload

If I have 4 green bars I'm host - at least that's been my experience so far. If I have anything less I might as well not even try to play, lol.

Oh yeah, I'm hard-wired into the modem so my NAT is always open.

I'm not sure of thats true or not, if it is why whould so many people report having moderate for Crysis 2 but Open for all other games. Unless it is a bug where your Nat Type is not properly displayed. I think they released a patch (maybe for PC) that was meant to address a bug where the ping was not displaying correctly.

My NAT type is moderate,

Although I have set my PS3's IP in the DMZ. All ports are open to and from my network specifically for the PS3. I usually get 4-5 bars. I do get less only when the host has a poor / over secured connection or I have a poor connection to them. I work for a cable company and 9 out of 10 people who run a home network do not properly setup / optimise their network traffic properly; especially for this kind of use.

Hope this helps some.

SO any idea why your Nat Type is still moderate?

I have set up a static IP for my PS3, and set that IP in the DMZ, still moderate. No firewalls on modem.

From what I've learned It's just detected that way. Not that it will be a problem though.

Nat type : moderate = Nat type 2 on ps3. Nat type 1 on ps3 = open. To get Nat type 1 on ps3 you need to wire your modem directly to your PS3 or use a PPPoE connection if you have dsl. PPPoE doesn't work for cable modems.

PPPoE does work using a internet connection provided by a cable modem.

I believe I am Type 2, but I am Open on Call of Duty and other games?

By "wire your modem directly to your PS3" is that nothing more than an ethernet cable?

DSL is not available where i live, I have wireless broadband (similar to mobile phone technology) althogu I do have ethernet cable from modem to PS3. maybe this is the casue for me. In Australia we have very poor internet standards.
