Question: Fallout 3 guns in oblivion?

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 10:05 pm

Hey guys, I have oblivion ( i just post more about fallout 3 lol ) anyway , I was wondering if it would be possible to add in a gun ( lets say the 10mm pistol ) from fallout 3, directly into oblivion, along with the ammo. A better example that I think would be the single shot pipe rifle from the fook 2 mod, for fallout 3, because it seems more old-timey, :) lol

There is no system in Oblivion to really support guns very well, it has been done as proof of concepts but they are heavily scripted.
Possible, but not worth the effort :)

I've seen it done, so its possible.

Still, I dunno why you'd want guns here, just play Fallout 3 :P

just sayin, it would be kinda cool, i wouldn't like want the plasma rifle or anything, just a pipe rifle, anyway, wouldn't it be as simple is importing the animations, the items, models ect, and adding them in game, it would be a ranged weapon like the bow, and ammo would be the bullets?

It would also be very much banned for you to try to distribute any such thing. On your own machine, though, it's both technically feasible (though difficult; this is not something you can just drag and drop), and completely legal (just so long as you do not distribute it).

That would be illegal...

My understanding (which may be completely wrong :P) is that porting assets from one game to the other, even though both games were developed by Beth, violates the licensing agreement.

It does. You cannot distribute any of those files, even as mods for other games made by Bethesda.

What you do with files that you legally own on your own computer, however, is your own business.

But you don't REALLY own them, do you? Beth is letting you use them, as long as you agree to their terms. Which include not porting them to other games, even if you own the other games, and Beth made the other games.

[EDIT] I thought that was the whole reason for the eradication from history of The Tool That Shall Not Be Named...

ishmaeltheforsaken, Bethesda is not going to send a goon squad to your door if you port an asset from one game to another game on your own computer. They will get a little angry if you share those assets with other players however.

Hehe, I know they won't ninja me in my sleep :P I just don't see how this is different from The Tool That Shall Not Be Named.

Oh, and are we REALLY not allowed to speak its name? It seems like posts about it don't get locked until someone actually comes out and says it...

There are, however, plenty of custom made guns in the Fallout mods section. So as long as you don't use anything from the Fallout game from gamesas, you can probably use the resources from those mods (provided there is permission) and make your own. Of course, as mentioned above, it's not something easy to do. You'd have an easier time using bows in FO3 :D

considering you'd have to remake the meshes, and the animations and heavily script it to work...and the fact it breaks all lore having a gun...

nobody is really gonna want to do it..

is it possible...yes, very little is impossible to do with oblivino modding

No, Fallout 3 uses a different .NIF format. The two aren't compatible and you can't simply interchange them without some alterations in the mesh formats.

The pipe rifle? IE a one shot homemade rifle using the lowest quality ammo available(as to not break the freaking gun when it fires it's first bullet)?
That doesn't exist in vanilla FO3. Someone had to make a version of it, first, despite the fact that it's showed up in pretty much every other Fallout game. Not that it was any better in those games, though.

I'm guessing that one could find a way to use it as a staff(or if one is really focused on getting it closer to proper usage, Crossbow derivative).
There has been many small addons adding a blunderbuss style staff, most running it off of soul gems(I think I saw one that used ammo as well as magic), but I don't think any of them look like a pipe rifle(save for the fact that a blunderbuss looks like a pipe on a wooden mount, honestly).

I don't recall all the details, but the big deal there is that a specific tool was created for an automatic conversion process. This gives more people the ability to do it. This compared to more general tools that don't really make it easy, clean or fun to do en masse.
