The Blur fix

Post » Wed Oct 29, 2008 8:17 am

To fix the ps3 blur just switch the ps3 settings from 1080p to 720p,the blur is due to the up scaling they did on the ps3 version. The 360 runs the game on 720p which makes it look the way it does,i have a friend who has crysis2 on both 360 and ps3 and when we made this change to 720 all was fixed the blur was gone and it looked great :).

Go into the display settings of your PS3 and choose Manual set up. Un-check the 1080i and 1080p boxes if they are checked.

I do this for every PS3 game as 99% of them are native 720p and look and run better if you don't try to up-convert or de-interlace the image. Some games such as MLB The Show even tell you to do it when you boot them up.

I honestly didn't try the game without doing this but I can't see how it wouldn't help somewhat. It certainly can't hurt to try. If you do try it, post back here and let us know if it helped at all.

Yea I noticed last night my TV was running 1080p and so I will have to try this when I get home, people don't understand that up-scaling is generally not actually a good thing :(

I always get a laugh when people debate a game's visuals on message boards and someone always says, "Must be your TV. The game looks awesome on my 50" 1080p Sony set", not realizing they are actually doing more harm than good by playing in 1080p. A lot of people with HDTVs have no idea how to use them properly.

Yea, but these are the same people who think threatening to return a game on a forum is going to win them some kind of respect.

The game runs way better on 720p because it was developed with 720p and they picked to upscale it to 1080p so as to make the 3D look better but they screwed up there. Anyway knowing how to use most HDTVs is the only way to get quality from the games you have :). Have fun people with the game :)

Yeah, it upscaled to 1080p by default on mine as well and sure enough it was way too soft/blurry so I immediately unchecked the 1080i/p boxes and now it runs perfectly in 720p with no blur.

Some people also suggest changing other PS3 settings, but in all honesty that isn't a cookie cutter suggestion for all PS3 owners. Each TV or monitor is different so it's subjective based on your own hardware. All I changed was the game's brightness down to 15 and display settings (like I said above) to 720p and that worked perfectly. Now the game is clear and has vibrant colors.

Could it be that my TV dont show the game with blur? Because I played it in 1080 and it had beautiful graphics. And then I changed to 720, and I could not find any differences at all, and if they were , I just didnt notice.

Does your TV support 1080p? I know some older HD TV's only supported 720p like the Samsung DLP I still have in our guest room. It down scales 1080p signals to 720p. So, if you have a TV like that it would look more or less the same as if you had the PS3 set to 720p. Just a thought...

I can agree and confirm that the game runs & looks sharper when forced to run @ 720p. I mean, maybe its a subtle difference, but it seems to run smoother and more responsive on top of the sharper IQ.

CRYTEK, please release an update so the game runs default 720p and still support forced 1080i/p for those with an older TV (1080i) or prefer the "softer look". I think a lot will agree that the game looks better this way, compared to the stretched upscaled look, which at times can be blurry.

Bump if you agree!
