Perk: Friend of the Night

Post » Sun Nov 02, 2008 1:09 am

I took this perk on a lark, expecting a subdued Cateyes effect. But no.

There wasn't much of a difference between darkness with the perk and darkness without.

Has anyone else take this perk? What kind of results have you gotten?

A humble request to the dev team for the next patch: give Friend of the Night some more love.

I've been using it when it works it works great but......

It's bugged it only works at night time whether inside or out rather than at any time depending on light levels as in the discription.

If you're in a well lit area it often dims it.

So my suggestion would just take it for role, and wait around untill night time to use it properly.

Since the perk's description reads: "Your eye adapt quickly to low-light conditions" I assumed I'd see a positive effect in subterranean areas. No substantial difference in light levels. I haven't used it outside yet, but it seems a bit of a waste of a perk slot at this point.

I don't consider myself a power-build player, but if I get a perk, it should make some sort of a difference.

To be honest I didn't see a need for it at all in the vanilla game. Nights are already pretty bright. Now, use the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34888 mod with the modified Friend of the Night perk and you've got something useful. The darker nights make everything look much cooler anyway. :)

Pipboy light is all I've ever needed to find loot in dark corners. The rest is bright enough...and if not, I raise the brightness slider.

But yeah, I tried that Perk early on. Didn't make much difference/didn't like its effect so I reloaded and haven't touched it since.

It's also based on light levels in the caves, you will see no difference in areas with no to little light.
Areas with some light or fauna that sheds a little light will however show some effect, it's also far better than cateye imo.
More a natural feel to it, of course this is only at night inside or out.
