I just can't get a Caravan game to work

Post » Sun Nov 02, 2008 8:54 pm

I've been trying to play Caravan but the game won't let me. All it does is let me Discard cards, one right after the other. Every once in a wehile I'll get a Play Card OK but it is rare.

Do I have a bug? What's wrong?

You're not missing much. The AI is pathetic, which is a shame because the core game is pretty deep.

I just tried playing again ... and AGAIN only the "discard card" is active! So I automatically lose!

What the h e l l do I have to do to get the "select card" to be active???

I think it was active only once or twice then died!!! I could make one or two piles then I automatically lost!!!

Do not fear, Fellow Mohavian,
Unless it's Fish or Snap I too cannot chain a card game together. (Mahjong on the other hand-)
Vent your frustrations out on the environment. Everything unowned is yours to trade. Companions help.
Just remember: Chance looking down the barrel of your weapon is an Ear, or an Eye.
I only see two suits: Aces or Spades...
Cards are for those with hope.
THe Mohave has none.

Can someone give me an answer? One I can use please.

I just tried again.

The NPC put one card on the table, a seven, and won the game after I had to "discard" SEVENTY cards in my deck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now WHY CAN'T I PUT A CARD ON THE TABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEVENTY CARDS AND NOT ONE IS ALLOWED TO BE PLAYED????????

Is my Caravan game BUGGED?????????????????????????????????

DOES ANYBODY'S CARAVAN GAME WORK???????????????????????????????????????

I would bet you are trying to play one card on top of the other when you should be placing the cards underneath. Go to the pile you want to card on, push down and it should play. Playing cards on top is for face/jokers, the numbers you play under. Let me know if it helped.

You have read the rules, right?

Have you managed to place your three first cards?

The next part is tricky because you not only have to pick a playable card, you have to move it to one of the caravans (Yours or His) and then drop it in the right place. You need to move it around a little until it turns green, then place it there.

That was the hardest part for me. Even though I had a playable card and it was in the caravan I wanted, I had to move it up/down/right/left until it was in the exact place the game wanted it (Unlike Windows card games that just let you drop it in the general vicinity.)

Thanks for the tips Buds! :foodndrink:

No where does it say to use the arrow keys to shift things around. That was the key. It's a poor and missleading interface. No intuitiveness.

So the programmers get a D minus grade and no raises or bonuses for three years and one more screw up and they're fired.

I cannot play caravan either. I am not given the option to select a card at all, only discard. What is the go? It is really giving me the [censored]

This was something that got me, as well - when I first started the game. I thought it was something fundamentally wrong with the game, but it turned out I just didn't understand how it was supposed to work.

Like was said - the first thing you'll want to do is make sure you're using the arrows keys (if you're on PC, obviously) to move the card not only side to side, but up and down each row. When the card turns green instead of red, it's a legal place for you to play that card.

You also use the arrow keys to select which of your five or six "face up" cards you want to play for the current move.

Yeah, the Caravan interface is terrible, and gives you no indication what you are doing wrong.

I finally played Caravan again yesterday and figured it out, after ignoring it for most of my game. The sad thing is, it's so easy to win once you figure out how to play. Just stack your deck with 6's, 10's, and Kings, and you can't lose.

Those were exactly my thoughts for so long. Try the 'arrow' keys. :hubbahubba:

I'm winning about 4 out of every five hands now. I need to stack the deck better.
