First Impressions (yes I missed the beta)

Post » Mon Nov 17, 2008 1:45 am

I will admit, I did go into this game with a Call of Duty mindset *facepalm

Pros:

I have watched some beta gameplays and am glad that melee is not an insta-kill (would make armor pointless)

Dog tag system does not entirely eliminate campers but I feel glad that they aren't being rewarded for camping with killstreak rewards.

Graphics are nice haha

Learning curve is higher than Call of Duty so not too many deaths from random nades at start of rounds or immediately after respawn.

Iffy(s):

In an effort to conserve energy consumption, I tried activating max armor at the second of the gunfight. Doesn't seems to do you any good after you're hit by the second bullet :/

Con(s):

Not too many, just noticed that you'll only see 4 bar connections on the host and the rest of the lobby sits at 2-3 bars. Pretty sure that's just first day traffic complications though.

So, what does everyone else think?

*Edit:
For gaming headset users: Don't you feel that the surround sound isn't really all that great? I hear footsteps but there's no dampening effect when it comes to how distant the enemy is. Multi-tiered building (Pier 17 for example), I could be on the first floor and someone being on the third and it sounds like they are right next to me haha!

It's my only real complaint but not too big of a problem..just has me twitchy since teammates don't think about all the ruckus they make lol

*Edit 2:
Snipers...need to actually take a stealth approach in this game. Losing a game because you wanna get your zzirgrizz on is pretty annoying and obviously isn't working if you go 1-24. Apologize for the rant there.

*Edit 3:
Perks, pretty important stuff.
I haven't had too much hands on with all of them (since I haven't earned all of them and all their pro upgrades).

My preferred atm is Armor Enhance, Covert Ops, Aim Enhance. Other perk being Weapon Pro. Pretty standard stuff. So what works for everyone else? Maybe we can compile a complete Perk list haha

I didn't play the demo either.

I think the Stealth Cloak is pretty much the root of all my issues with the multiplayer. Everyone knows there are a lot of campers in FPS games, well now we have invisible campers! It's a part of the core gameplay on here so it's not going anywhere. Nano-vision does help spot them easier, but you're forced to play the majority of the round flip flopping between normal and thermal vision. It's annoying and doesn't feel as convenient as using the Stealth Cloak so there's a balance issues there.

I see the same setup being used by most of the successful players. The MK.60 or another heavy gun that doesn't have to be reloaded until after you've shredded through 2-3 people. In most cases it does take a lot of bullets while strafing to kill someone because they are doing the exact same thing -moving sideways while shooting. This puts AR and SMG users at a significant disadvantage in the majority of the encounters they'll have in this game, which will involve being swarmed by a multiple opponents soon after they begin firing on a particular player.

I'm still going to play it for the next few days and see if my thoughts change.

I see..

Crysis does seem to revolve around the cloaking. This is where it sets apart the casual "have fun" gamers from those who want to continue to improve. I haven't really used nano-vision except when I accidentally toggled it once, but otherwise I just go off of footsteps or the brief ripple in the cloak. I'll have to give this nano-vision a go.

Setup wise: I actually find myself using the SCAR all the way (aside from the occasionally shotgunning...which I'm not yet fond of). I find that you can take on heavy gunners using ARs at distances due to the spraying tendencies that come with using a heavy machine gun so that could be a suggestion..

I haven't enough gametime to unlock an SMG... OTL

Right, I agree with your logic about AR vs LMG. It makes sense on paper. Most of my encounters are close to mid range. It's easy taking out someone with a AR or LMG from far away if they are standing still, moving targets can require more bullets depending on latency and/or bullet placement. In the latter situation I'll usually get killed by one of his teammates from the side or behind. Whether they were lingering around Cloaked or respawned near me I'll never know since there is no theater mode in this game.

In my case: My K/D has been much higher using the MK.60 than the Scar simply because I've had a lot more success killing off the vultures who are preying on my low health from the encounter I had with their fallen teammate. Aside from the extra bullets from the MK.60 I think it's all just crap luck too lol.

True true haha! I do find that a bit annoying as well with those that will camp for someone that just finished a firefight...but that's no longer game issue related, just me in a moments rawr mode.

I have had my fun with the starter LMG and I'll admit, it does work. I just have a weird mindset depending on the weapon I'm using and I'm not too fond of close quarter combat (not that I'm scout sniper or anything)

Which comes to another topic, respawns.. ha..ha

They started out pretty okay with me...until later. As big as a map as Pier 17 is, I wonder why people spawn behind me o.O - This is probably something they'll hopefully fix later on.
