Is there more to come?

Post » Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:20 am

I was wondering, it's been three months since the game was released and though there have been at least 3 updates to the game(all released shortly after the release date) there are still many game breaking bugs to be found. One of the largest being the fact that if you clear the Nipton Highway or Novac, Mr New Vegas still talks as if Nipton was still plagued and noone knows what happened to Novac(even after you report it to the NCR). Another huge one is when you start the quest "I fought the Law" and choose to side with the NCR at the end...after everything is done and the NCR thanks you and you gain rep with them and get your reward nothing ever happens. The alarm still keeps going off, the hole in the wall never is repaired, the repuation/faction remains under powder gangers control and Mr New Vegas even says the attempt to retake the Corrections Facility failed and in the end game it says the same. Though all this happens the soldiers still recognize that you helped them and thank you while remaining inside the office building they helped you storm.

After searching and finding that many others had these errors and that looking through the GECK the sound files for Mr New Vegas even announcing that the Corrections facility has been retaken are not even there, nor for retaking the highway, or for finding out what happened to Novac. This is very confusing and disappointing, good people of Bethesda. Fallout 3 had it's problems and lots of bugs but it was a masterpiece and with the help of modders(with mods and unofficial patches alongside the official ones) it became even more of one. This game has all the makings of an even better masterpiece but these bugs such as aforementioned that are game breaking ruin the entire play of the game and would be almost impossible for modders to fix.

I suppose what my question is, is will there be more updates any time soon to fix these aforementioned bugs and the others that are causing some problems? Also will Dead Money remain only for the Xbox as that would be really disappointing...I assume there will probably be a GOTY edition with any DLC's that come out sometime later...I would be very interested if you could confirm if this is true, as i'd also like to know if thoughts had been made to make New Vegas playable after the main quest is over. That main feature, key to Broken Steel for Fallout 3, was one of the best things that came to the game. There's nothing like a sense of accomplishment after clearing the wastes and makeing the world a better place and then being able to traverse your new peaceful domain(and perhaps finish up any loose ends you left) and I know that there are many who agree with me. I hope you will listen to one of your biggest fans and to the countless other fans who cry out for aid and perhaps if i'm lucky I might hear a response to my post which could set my mind at ease *fingers crossed*.

Thank you Bethesda in advance and for all the wonderful games you've already made especially in conjunction with one of the best teams ever to exist...the former Black Isle team.

Bethesda only published and "tested" the game ( supposing that they really tested it before its final release)

Well it seemed to be a quick rush just to get it out for Christmas which is what I received the game for...I loved it though not so much after all the bugs even after the massive 3 downloads steam forced to to do over my crappy internet connection totalling about 1.5GB of data after said and done. Which is why i'm hoping they will fix the last of the errors at least the major ones I listed above before moving on to something else :(

The things you speak of as errors or bugs such as the alarms in the NCRCF and no one acknowledging it's been retaken are not really errors as such, more of design decisions and/or consequences of them not having enough time to flesh out the game more. It'd be nice if there were more post-quest reactions, consequences, and activities you could undertake that would have a noticeable effect on the gameworld but that's the way it goes.

Creating a post-raid Nipton or a post-retaken NCRCF that is actually different in the game and is noticed as such by NPCs and can be interacted with as the player is something left to the modding community I suppose. All the additional art assets, scripting, and quest making required for those things to happen simply wasn't done as development time is neither infinite nor free as much as we might wish it was.

While I understand you are displeased with what you and a minority of others have had to out up with. But you could not referred to it as "we" makes it seem like everyone is having these problems.

It is very annoying annexing the NCRCF but still having Powder Ganger rep. The alarm, however, Obsidian could just say "oh, it is probably jammed and can't be repaired"

Well that doesn't necessarily mean anything...many things have been said to be exclusive to one console or the other and then after a series of months suddenly it is decided to release it for either other consoles or for the PC, which hence is why I asked was it planned to remain xbox exclusive.

Well I wouldn't exactly call myself and about a few thousand others a minority. I've read countless posts on about a hundred different forums of people asking, explaining, and moaning over the same exact problem. Perhaps it it isolated to one console or the other or simply to the PC version(which is the version I have) but despite that there have been far too many counts to call it a minority. Believe me I wouldn't post it as a bug if I only saw it occur with myself and perhaps a handful of others and when I say 'we' I am talking in a broad sense meaning to encompass all those that have had the problem, not 'we' as in a sense of all or everyone. I don't believe I said everyone though I am tired at the moment and so could be mistaken...if I did say such I apologize as it was not my meaning.

Yes perhaps the alarm and hole in the wall would be more lack of time to do everything than errors, I was more referring to the wrong end cutscene and radio announcement being played as the bad bugs and the rest was kinda a regrettable complaint. I agree it would be very nice for post quest reactions and the like...not sure if it's possible for modders to do such but I would be happy if the two bugs were corrected and perhaps also the ownership of the NCRCF was returned to the NCR when the raid ends successful instead of always remaining with the PGs. And as far as Nipton I would just be happy with the proper radio announcement as well instead of it still saying that the highway is block still even after you clear it...is very strange. Anyway, thanks for your input...I agree it seems as if there is never enough production time to put all the things fans would love to see in the game...which is why I love the modding community, just hope they can catch up sometime soon :P

On the first time I helped take the prison, I got the radio announcement soon after, did you.

A. Kill everyone, excluding Meyers, in all the buldings and.
B. Give it enough time to catch up.
Or even..
C. Go back to Primm and enter the LT's tent to see if he'd headed out.

I killed everyone except the main guy though it didn't give me long to kill him as the NCR went charging for him...did you get the correct radio announcement saying that you took back the NCRCF or that the raid failed? Also which version you have...PC or console...might have something to do with that.

PC and I got the radio annoucement, a day or so later after the raid.
However this was pre patch and I have only done the NCR way once.

I like the PG's more as a what could happen if...... faction, so I disguse myself as NCR stealth boy up and silently kill the troopers on every playthrough.
Apart from that one time.

It must be a bug, maybe I got lucky and did one thing different from most and flagged it as complete for the radio message.

Also have you tried killing those respawning but neutral camps around, this may have an effect?

... the last I read (not long ago), from a gstaff post I think it is, there was no news at the moment on this front. So no one can really answer whether there will be "more updates", or when. My guess is that will be a least one more patch/update, but whether it will fix "everything" for everyone, with all the varied issues they have, who knows. But I'd highly doubt it;that's just the nature of the beast so to speak. The DLC is finished so maybe they're increasing work on another patch now.

Still...I wouldn't expect one "soon."

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
