Just to put in my 2 cents, individual character dt is the bigger pain. But add that to armor dt and it can become a giant pain, especially with rangers. How you were dying at camp golf however, I don't know because even with crap armor I seemed to absorb most all of their fire just as well as they did mine. I was using a light machine gun and even the regular NCR took about a full clip to put down each. And that was on normal. With me though, it was probably leveling, because I was close to level 30. And it took an ungodly number of shots with a silenced pistol in the heaad to put down a single ranger... completely ruined my surprise attack.
with death claws I can understand it, and I think they should be very hard to kill, but the rangers it does get annoying. I sort of wish the armor would actually degrade more with gunfire, but with NPCs it doesn't seem to really degrade the armor at all... at least not nearly enough before the person is actually dead. I know that could make it too easy, but the PC shouldn't have so much personal DT, frankly. I hardly ever wear armor and still don't have many problems, especially since getting up in level. Everything outside of wearing PA, I should be affraid of going up against 5-7 NPCs. Instead there were only 3 times I was ever affraid of going up against anything:
2 were early when I first started, and it was taking on those flying bugs en mass and taking on death claws when I only had a varmint rifle and a 9mm (b/c of the dt, I couldn't make a dent). The 3rd time was when I first stumbled onto the area full of death claws across the river, because I was no where near prepared to face off against so many, I just didn't have the equipment with me. Being prepared however, it was insanely easy. But people, I've never been fearful of going up against them. Even the 3-4 rangers that show up to kill you if you've go a bad rep with the NCR, I've taken them on without a second though, comming FROM just killing everyone at camp golf, so I was already low on ammo and the like.
