Are all the NPCs blind or am I just a really feminine man?

Post » Fri Dec 05, 2008 12:40 am

I've noticed that although I'm playing as a male character a lot of NPCs refer to me as "baby", "darling", "sweetheart" & other terms stereotypically used to refer to women.

I have the Confirmed Bachelor perk so that may be the cause but I doubt it.

(not sure where to post this as I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended)

Confirmed Bachelor means your character is homosixual. That's probably it.

Its the slang of the era the NPC's are representing. The Sinatra, Martin, Rat Pack stuff.

Baby can be used (at least in Vegas) to describe a man or anybody really. Ex:

"He-Hey you're in Vegas now baby!"

Sweetheart and darling on the other hand can normally be used to describe a guy as well if they're being used by a lady and/or ladyfriend.

Now if guys are calling you sweetheart and darling then my only explanations are bug or confirmed bachelor.

Let's not jump to confusions here. While in the US the term Confirmed Bachelor has in the past been used as a polite euphemism for a male homosixual, there is nothing in the seemingly carefully selected dialog of the Courier to indicate that he is, indeed, gay—although one is free to role play him in that manner.

The responses of certain NPCs, however are more clear cut.

All the perk does is make the Player Character more appealing to other male NPCs. Several nebulous responses like, "I don't know what it is, but I just like you," are indicative of this. The only blatant exception is Dr. Richards, whose comments and responses are patronizingly chauvinistic.

Since there is no male/male six in the game (discounting prosttutes) and the Confirmed Bachelor can still have a fling with Red Lucy, that leaves the only real same-six relations up to female Player Characters.

Had to laugh at this answer by Josh. I didn't check the icon art before he talked about it but I probably would have missed it too. :)

Q: Confirmed Bachelor is considered a homosixual perk? Neither the name, the art nor the description gave any indication of that.

A: Confirmed Bachelor is a euphemism for a gay man. The icon art shows Vault Boy giving a massage to a naked Vault Boy with a heart floating over his head. I'm amazed that people look at that and sincerely come away thinking, "Hey, looks like a couple of bros just having a good time and giving a friendly massage."

This FTW. I was just about ready to quote Mr. Sawyer myself until I saw this post. I'm blown away that there are STILL people out there who never knew that Confirmed Bachelor means your character is gay, lol.

I've always thougt it was kind of obvious with the art and the perk description and all. I like making my characters bisixual. Would wish there were more benefits from it though, I don't really care much about damage enhancers since I mostly focus on dialogue.
