See, companions do use stimpacks, lol

Post » Mon Dec 15, 2008 12:34 pm

Going through my videos from last night, there was one in which stupid Boone (of course..) randomly decided to take on a bunch of Bighorners with his lead pipe. I had to rescue him, so to speak, but never mind that. With the frame by frame of video, I could finally see him use a stimpack...vs. just knowing he must have because some were missing from his inventory. I've seen them make that waving motion of course, but could never see the actual item in their hand. Until now.

You can see him pull it out and jab himself in the side with it. I now have a new goal...to get a shot of a companion downing buffout. I'm imaging them raising the little brown bottle to their lips. Companions...drug addicts, all of them.

Awesome. Good luck with catching the sneaky addicts.

Hmmm... tbh, I think that the NPCs only have the "Stimpak" animation, while the rest is the usual "grab invisible stuff from the ground".

Oh that would be too bad....I hope not. It was so awesome to see the stimpack one...usually you're too busy in combat to notice. Oh well, I can hope.

Great post, i like how Booney had the composure to inject himself with the stimpak in the middle of all those bighorners.

I do not belive companions inhale adictive substances.I could be wrong but cureing them of it is technicly impossible ingame

Funny you should say that...every time I see npc's in melee combat doing that twirl-in-the-air thing, I think of KOTOR...

They use buffout. But so far none of the other chems that I've been able to notice. They're immune to radiation, they're also immune to addiction (in-game, but not in my imagination). ;)

Oh wow...look at all those Bighorners. Are you taking good care of Boone? :D

Fantastic that you caught that. Did he say he needed a Medic before he self-medicated?

Last night we ran into some Cazadors and were a bit overwhelmed at our early level. When he said he needed a Medic, I used a Stimpak on him and he promptly passed out and crumpled like a rag doll. I'd never seen that before. Now he's taken a liking to Nephi's Golf Driver so I see bad things coming. I need to find him a good rifle. Vault 34 is yet to come though.

More...I hope you find more. I'll be watching closer now to see if I can catch that too. Thanks for sharing. :)

No, he didn't say his medic line beforehand, which is odd. There were 9 or 10 of them, including the few baby bighorners. So funny. I think they spawned on top of each other because it looked like only two when I shot at one, & suddenly it was this huge group. Plus two others came running over at the sound of the shots.

And yeah, there's some poison/stimpack bug in the game for some people now. :/

Nice pics lady crimson, in FO3 I would see the companions use the anim but not so far in NV.

It would be cool if Cass had a special anim of.
A: drinking from a bottle instead of injecting the stimpack and,
B: If taking any other stimulant / drug passing out in a death anim.

I finally caught a glimpse of an NPC using a Stimpak the other day with one of the Great Khan in Boulder City as I was mowing them down ;)
In FO3 it was really annoying to watch for several seconds as an NPC used a stimpak while being shot at point blank by other actors. So speeding it up is a good thing, imho.

I wish they'd speed up the 'hand waving' animation, too. That still seems to take a few seconds, aka forever in mid-combat.

Also, I can understand not animating for every possible consumable (tho it'd be funny to 'see' them eating a carrot or whatnot, haha), but still hoping there's one or two others for non-food aids. But if not...still glad I got to see the stimpack one. :)

@ Madocmayhem - haha, a drinking animation like that would be hilarious. I think Boone's a closest whiskey addict as well, he just doesn't admit it like Cass. He has a bottle in his Novac room and he seems quite happy when I put a couple bottles into his inventory. *wink*

Your not taking care of Boone, were is his NCR Combat Armor and AMR rifle?
Any ways i think its just a healing animation unless you put one or he picked up one.
And ive think ive caugh Boone doing some type of animation when at low health but i never payed to much attention to it.
Wonder if ED-E has any special animations.

My question is, did he use the Stimpack you gave him, or did he use a stimpack from his invisible inventory?

I tried giving him anti venom.
A single dose twice stung in two short encounters so he failed to heal as the poison took place at the very end of combat both times.

I remember hearing that in FO3 the ammount the companions had in stock had a factor in stimpack use.
I should console a bunch in and poison a companion to check anti venom.

I think the only way to give the companions Antivenom is to take it yourself. Have not fully tested this, but that is the way it seems to work. Which I would prefer, as that stuff is kind of rare and I don't want to have to give it to all my companions.

I've never thought about/noticed whether my taking an antivenom means they're also cured, since it's rare both myself and a companion are poisoned at the same time. Does it work to take it even when you're not actually poisoned yourself?

They absolutely love buffout tho...if you have both buffout and stimpacks in their inventory and they take enough damage to trigger one of their lines (meaning they probably lost about 1/4 of their health or received a crippled limb), they will take the buffout first. Always. At least in my game. I give them all my buffouts, it's so cute.

Thanks CCNA I'll give this a try, I tend not to get stung by anything other than cazadores and only rarely when ranged.
ATM the PC has a bucket load of scorpion glands, the nightstalkers are easy to find as well, so if it saves an easy target companion some health it'll be worth it.
Thanks again.

Sorry for the double post, but..
Sorry CCNA I just gave this a try, it does not work to stop poison on companions by imbibing antivenom yourself.

It seems too, It could be also that I got tired of Boone moaning, as that sounds not like he is in pain, and took one myself as he was going to take care of himself.

I did not know they took other Chems, this could be interesting, very interesting. :whistling:

I also since the post tried giving a companion 108 anti venoms.
Of which they took 0, so unless on the pc and there's a mod to let them use anti venom.
Or the health drop glitch is fixed, with a bonus anti venom tagged on its effects.
The only solution is to kill the big wasps before they hit.
