Female impersonators

Post » Sat Jan 03, 2009 10:57 pm

OK so I recognize that I am going to have many MANY jokes thrown my way for this but I have to ask. In New Vegas were are the female impersonators? Anyone whose been to Las Vegas knows there's a very huge population of Female impersonators preforming at clubs. Heck for some Las Vegas is practically a Mecca for them. So why aren't they in New Vegas?

Its great they added the Homosixual component to New Vegas to add a more realistic view of society but it seems very half measured. Yes there's Woman to Woman but no Man to Man.

But I digress, Female Impersonators are as much a part of the Vegas Culture as the Elvis impersonators so why weren't they put in?

Drag clubs have been around for years even way before the "50's" ( again FO is not based on the real 50's at all ).
Men have allways dressed up and impersonated women for theatrical entertainment, most of the lady parts in plays have had more men than women play them.

As to where are they in NV, Tabitha caused a blowback when she was announced.
Despite no one actually knowing anything about her other than VA'd by a man, wears a womans outfit and a bad wig..

So proper impersonaters that most gamers would laugh at than laugh with, would have been bad and drawn the wrong focus to NV,

Well, actually there are at least two homosixual men I'm sure about. That's ok in my book, even though they're just hinted at, not more. But it's enough for me to take "Confirmed bachelor" in every replay.

I don't know them all, but the ones I know for sure are gay men are....

Arcade Gannon
Jimmy (Male hoker in Westside)
The doctor in Camp Forlorn Hope
Major Knight at the Mojave Outpost
Manny Vargas in Novac

Okay, I thought I knew more, but I guess I didnt. I never take confirmed bachelor, but it's one of the useless perks for me.

Wasn't Major Polati homosixual too? I thought that was implied in the doc's note to him but I only read it once. . . .

Anyway,

The game won't allow you to cross-dress so I don't know how they could pull off a drag queen. I did find it funny that giving Veronica Mortimer's tuxedo counts as giving her a formal dress. Would have been funnier to actually see her looking all "butch" in said tuxedo but I digress. Most games don't allow cross-dressing although I find the idea of a man in a dress torching the interior of the Ultra-Luxe hilarious.

That's a good point maybe they will be able to create a character that is a strong charecter in some DLC or the next game, that is a female impersonator one maybe that isn't there for comic relive but portray them as a real character that's a real part of the story. I didn't know about blow back with Tabitha. What was the blow back? I always thought she was a chick but it is hard to tell with super mutant.

I think it shouldn't be up to a post apocalyptic RPG to change games with a crying game theme. Tabitha was just a joke character which got complaints from some people needlessly. What these people don't realize is that to be accepted you have to learn to be ridiculed sometimes.

Overall I felt New Vegas had a lot of Homosixual characters that were treated normally (with the only thing coming close to camp was boring old Arcade)

More to the point, are they active in a 50's - themed world that has experienced a world-wide nuclear war that killed off about 90% of the human race?

Methinks there are other concerns at that point if you happen to be one of the lucky (?) few to be alive to rebuild the world.

Manny Vargas in Novac

Really? Do you need confirmed bachelor to find this out? I always play as a female PC so there's been no indication that I've noticed.
...it could shed some light on certain story bits/things he says, tho. Interesting. :)

Just going by some post here. Why does a female Elvis impersonator have to be homosixual? I don't see how homosixuality has anything to do with it. Many women like Elvis so it stands to reason some would want to impersonate him.

Does not matter if Women were impersonating Elvis openly in the 1950s. That was over 200 years ago "fallout time."

I agree Styles, you're right absolutely.
Many see Drag as homosixuality, it's a stereotype at best.
I don't want to go heavily into the subject as it will just get this locked.

Just that typically a man that dresses as a woman is more likely to be straight, especially if it's for a job.
Or simply impersonist does not equal transvestite which in turn does not equal homosixual, each is a far different life style than the other.

As to Tabitha, super mutants are asixual, sterile and can't reproduce in any normal way.
Some however still retain memories of their past life, so Tabitha was a woman before being a mutant.
This combined with the affliction of being a nightkin, and truma of her friend breaking down led to a psychotic break in personality.
None of which was explained before release due to the secret nature of game release.
Which made it seem like it was a cheap joke about a man in a wig being crazy to some that had no experience about the FO universe.

I wish there were Women wearing suits in Fallout and at least some man out there in a dress. Would be better if my chracters could wear any outfit no matter what six it was for. I know that would take alot of work for the Devs to do so something only a few would want. Still one suit out there my female character could wear would have been nice.

Not really Styles, in Oblivion they have mods that add neutral unisix outfits.
Skirts for men and maybe trousers for women.
All it takes I think is to just have the same or similiar mesh for both sixes rather than a unique version for each.

However I'm no expert, maybe a modder will come along and explain it better.

I'm with you, but there are women wearing suits. Alice McLafferty is wearing a suit (I believe its just PreWar Business wear). You mean a pants-suit like Hillary Clinton? Why!?!? The clothing was 50s stylized so pant-suits hadn't been invented yet.

Would be fun to run around in drag though. . .

Not an expert either but that's about it, yes. If you just try to put the 'male' version of the mesh as the female you end up with a female face and male body proportions (male shoulders, male arms, etc) since you're placing the entire male mesh onto the female definition.

If, however, you do not define (in the settings for a particular clothing) a female outfit nif, when a female equips the clothing item, it'll just look like the female has on some bulky clothing but not include the masculine body parts. I haven't looked at that thoroughly tho, it could be dependent on the outfit/what's exposed. Hm. Think I'll check that right now.

Nope, you'd have to make new meshes. Some 'male' meshes just look ok with female heads simply because the outfit looks like something that would be bulky on a female, but stuff like dresses or lighter clothes/pantsuits don't look right.

However... http://crimsonkeep.com/wallpapers/data/media/33/falloutNV-812.jpg
(edit:It's just funny to me because it's so out of chr. for Boone)

 you  for that.

I allways knew boone looked great.

Seriously thanks for checking up on it :foodndrink: .
I think as you say unless you make a specific mesh or NV had a trouser / skirt option like oblivion.
The best you could do is retexture Benny' suit to style then.

Hey, when you're hot, you're hot. That's one reason Manny's in love with him. Johnny Depp looks great in a dress too. :)

If they do anything that even hints of trannies.......it would create a PR poo-storm.

Arcade Gannon
confirmed (most likely, but I don't think there's a definite give-away)
Jimmy (Male hoker in Westside)
Sure? I never played as a female, but I thought that he would do it with just anyone who comes by. It's his job after all.
The doctor in Camp Forlorn Hope
confirmed, most definitely.
Major Knight at the Mojave Outpost
He's getting a special dialog if you have Confirmed Bachelor which makes it 100% clear. But how do you know that if you never take that perk?
Manny Vargas in Novac
Hm, I missed that one. What makes you think that he's gay?
