Multiplayer change from 6v6 to 8v8 a mistake

Post » Sat Jan 10, 2009 6:11 am

Changing the max player count for PC was a horrible idea. The game's pacing is completely different now, turning what was a pretty balanced multiplayer game into another run and gun, and the die, shooter. I am actually disappointed.

Dude it's not a very drastic change, only 2 more players on each team. The game was already paced at a run and gun level. Might be worst in Skyline but judging by the size of Pier 17 and all the other maps wich seem to be about the size or bigger compared to it, it's a very welcome addition.

How much can you possibly fail. For **** sake the first 2 games had 16v16 and huge maps and it was awesome.

8v8 is **** console port fail

I agree with OP 100%. Anyone who thinks more players doesnt equal less skill and more spam is an idiot.

Thank you for the support, I honestly mean that. To those in opposition, the maps were designed with 6v6 in mind, adding more players makes the combat feel quite awkward in my opinion.

Would you play 16vs16 on a map like Skyline? You wouldn't to move to shoot someone.

The game is deliberatly designed to be a faster shooter than the first, is not because of consoles, is because of devs deciding to design the game this way.

Although I only played the demo (not buying game yet) I've seen some videos about this issue. Making it now 8v8 was a bad idea and I blame the idiots on these forums. You've even got stupid comments right in this thread from wrimo and Nocturnal 7x comparing this game to Crysis 1. dikeheads, the maps were bigger in that game! People like them kept crying and crying about how Crysis 2 is 6v6 (which is needed since maps are smaller) and so Crytek seems to have caved in to their whining. This kind of stuff is exactly reasons why the original Crysis multiplayer died...

Yeah, but C1 and Wars don't have TINY maps. I can see what the op is saying. Too many people in a tiny box. I mean, really, I've seen much bigger levels in Quake 3 mods. C2 is a disgrace.

Game is fine. Jesus when it was 6V6 people biched, now that it's 8V8 people are biching. Damn if you do damn if you don't. Can this community ever be satisfied? I mean yea Crytek isn't exactly on my favorites list now for a lot of other reasons but I have to admit the 6V6 was biched about like crazy and now that they upped it, it's back to the same biching.

I understand that the new Crysis is more fast paced and with smaller maps. I am not saying you should have 32 players on a map made for 12 or 16... I am simply saying that there were 32 player game modes/servers on the first 1.5 Crysis games. To drop that completely means that a modder will just have to make Power Struggle lol.

The problem is they upped it, but still gave us the TINY maps. In the end, I think they just utterly failed. What were they thinking? What happened to the people who made C1 and Wars? This is NOTHING like Crysis.

Eheh, like I said on another thread, said something here right know it will put you always between two fires. Is release time, I've seen this kind of situation millions of times, the most memorable were Wolfenstein and Neverwinter Nights 2 pre-order toolset.

The difference is, some of us were wrong, and some of us are right.

The maps are small because they are designed for 6 v 6. Putting more than 6 v 6 in these maps is wrong. Simple as that. 8 v 8 was to appease all the morons who want 32 v 32 in any game because they think it'll make them not svck.

What facts? More like BS. The OP was clearly talking about Crysis 2 and how he didn't like the increase to 8 players. Then you chime in and bring up random **** talking about Crysis 1 and how it had 32 players.

Okay, now you're saying that this is what you really meant. I don't believe you because your post certantly didn't come across that way (but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt).

EDIT: After reading back on the whole thing, I think you're full of it.

Harmatia 32v32 was a certain game mode... its not meant to be played on these small maps so please stop saying we want 32v32 on these maps....

Just take a look at Power Struggle for the crysis games and you'll know.

Kaibah I was referring to the game mode power struggle and how you could have 32 v 32... so ya don't bash on me for not understanding the loss incurred between warhead and crysis 2. If someone here reading this has played Power Struggle then I suppose you can start to attack my posts otherwise don't bother as you sound unintelligent ^_^

Harmatia never even referred to you. Why are you taking it like a personal insult?

I was there when Crysis 1 came out. I've NEVER claimed that the change from the big maps and gameplay to what we have now was a good thing - even in this thread. Now you're just putting words in my mouth and making up ****...troll.

Apart from skyline all maps are large enough to support 8vs8 in my opinion (Maybe in 8vs8 more people will use the indoor areas of skyline, which so few actually do). I never complained about 6vs6, but I don't think, that additional 2 players on both sides will make too much of a difference on those maps.
