This Machine vs Fully Modded Hunting Rifle?

Post » Tue Jan 20, 2009 5:17 pm

I just got This Machine, I know it does more damage and DPS but overall is it more efficient than a fully modded Hunting Rifle with a scope, accelerator and extended mag?

Im not asking asking whats better, im just asking what would be a more efficient, like a go to gun when all else fails.

DPS (for non VATS players) is your primary measurement of efficiency. Ignoring the Ammunition supply. If you are in VATS, then what is the AP cost per shot?

So, you already know your answer based on that.

Now, the only other aspect for me is how long it takes to reload the thing. If it has a Clip, those are fastest. Carbines and other guns that take individual bullets into magazines can take an eternity in battle to reload as it always seems to happen at the worst time.

This Machine is great for mid to close-ish range, imo. It's the one I tend to use for firing from the hip as well as casual mid-range sniping. I use it a lot against cazzies or Fiends or Legion, for example. It has a pretty big spread, however, so it's not going to be your long-range 'go to' sniping rifle. The Hunting Rifle (or Sniper Rifle or Gobi or...) would be the more efficient for that purpose.

This is really the answer. Guns like the Trail Carbine and This Machine and other GP Rifles are best for Medium Range work, where the Hunting/Sniper rifles are best for long range work. The Marksman Carbine seems to be the best bridge weapon, for me, between Long and Medium Range.

However for a Medium Range weapon, I prefer ones that use Clips as they reload faster.

Yes, running and gunning, or basic rifle go with This Machine.

I too am biased to hunting rifles and against uniques, but the advice Lady Crimson posted is for you.

Both weapons don't compete with each other. This Machine fails at sniping and the Hunting Rifle fails at short-medium ranged combat.
