Mafia 2 Apex Physics

Post » Sun Feb 08, 2009 11:17 am

Mafia 2 looks great, but the apex physics is what gets lower frame rates. With settings on max, I can play the game on Max settings WITHOUT Apex physics at about 50 - 60 FPS most of the time. As soon as I put apex physics to high, it goes down to 20-35. Some times it goes really really low like 14 - 15 but then it goes back normal again. Seriously though, Apex physics makes the game look awesome.
So, if you have played Mafia 2, what are your specs, and what happens when you put apex physics on ?

My specs -
Core 2 duo 3.0 GHz
4 GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 470

I know, it's just a bit of a bottleneck...

If I got a better processor, would it run Mafia 2 with apex physics better ?

your frame rate will drop no matter what unless you have a dedicated physx card , that's the same case with all games that support physx.

I have a quad core Phenom II 955 @ 3.8Ghz , I get 60fps avg , It sometimes drops to 30-40 with physx enabled.

Get a quad core , you'll get a fps boost in almost every modern game , especially BC2.

I have a quadcore.. makes no big difference in mafia 2.

There are Scenes where Physx shows its glory... i have no drops there,
But on random scenes in the city.. no big deal...from 40-50 to 20 -25.

Like i said...no good implementation.

Core 2 Due
4GB of ram(32 bit)
GeForce 9800,GT I think.
I didn't try without Physx, cuz I can't go to bad quality after is see high quality.
Lowest FPS i got was 10,but it's usually steady at 25.

@methegreat - Get a Physics Card for your computer. That should do the trick...

Yeah, absolutely right there, sometimes you enter a tiny room with nothing interactive in it and it slows down like hell

There are some things you can do to improve framerate without turning off the apex physics effect. Try it and you'll get a HUGE framerate boost. It's what I used.
