impossible to play with 5970

Post » Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:36 am

So everyone with crossfire/sli are unable to play this game due to the insane flickering which totally svcks. I read that disabling crossfire/sli fixes the problem but with a 5970 I have no fix. I actually have 2 5970s crossfired with a 980x at 4.4ghz and yet I am unable to enjoy this game. I've disabled crossfire but that does not help since the 5970 is a dual gpu so it's basically always crossfired. Does anyone know how I can fix this without losing fullscreen mode? I heard that renaming the exe works but since I went through steam I can't to that. I really want to play this and i've been looking forward to it for a long long time and this really pisses me off.

On a side note, I am deeply disappointed with this release. I just don't understand how they could release this game with this kind of problem. I do not see how this problem did not occur during testing, especially since it is so widespread. Add to this that it's not even dx11 and it's basically a slap in the face. I felt terrible when the leaked copy was released and I thought that crytek would do everything in their power to make sure the official release blew everyone away, but they didn't. I thought that the leak was crap because it was dx9 and that it wouldn't hurt them since the real game would be dx11 but once again, I was wrong. I rarely purchase $60 games anymore since I always end up disappointed and I thought that this would be the one game that wouldn't let me down, but this is the biggest disappointment yet. I could get over it being dx9 but the fact that I can't even play the game is unforgivable. I just spent $60 and all I can do is watch the opening scene. I have lost all faith in pc gaming and I just pray that something is done soon to fix this. The game does look amazing, I just wish I could play it.

Damn.........lol Im sorry.

Crytek **** on you. I can still play it at 60FPS by disabling SLI so I am atleast able to enjoy this heavily consolized game a little bit.

I have no idea why you are having problems because you shouldn't be with that setup. I have one 5850 and no problem.

Multi GPU support is non existant for Crysis 2.

You have ONE GPU.

He technically has four. Even if he disables one card, the game is still in Xfire mode.

i get the flickering in crysis 2 like the first 2 games as well. using my 2 trusty 5850s. i never tried the demo so i dont know about that.
i found out that pressing ALT+ENTER while in-game with the flickers, will make them disappear but with a few fps sacrificed. pressing ALT+ENTER will either go to full windowed mode or back to the flickering "mode". same thing happened to crysis 1, but since the patch was released, i didn't have to ALT+ENTER.

So the most graphically advanced game on pc doesn't support multi GPU's....way to go Crytek

I have SLI 480's too. Tried it and it didn't work. I even switched both of my GPU's on my mobo thinking that might fix it. Nothing.

Probably uninstalled my GPU drivers 10 times today.

GPU support is non existent? Guess they aren't delaying DX11 for the GTX 590 then.

DX11 just isn't coming. At this point, I can't see anyway DX11 would make this **** fest any better.

I'm willing to bet the CryEngine 3 can't even DO Dx11.

i hope you didnt spend all that money just to play crysis 2?! crysis 2 is going to be less incentive that the first one once they get all the graphics done.

I don't know what your all talking about buy I run a ATI Radeon Hd 5870 and 5970 in Crossfire mode and can play the game just fine... I'm not getting any flickering or anything and im running the game on extreme so this game does support multi GPU...

See if this helps - http://www.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=11216&p=157891#p157891

Otherwise, the only solution is to run the game in Windowed Mode. This loads only one GPU. I, too, have 2 5970s in Crossfire and running in Windowed mode gets rid of the flicker, then it limits the game to only hitting a single GPU, even on a 5970. I'll be giving this solution (link above) a try this evening.
