Graphics Issue: Lines Everywhere

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 8:16 pm

Hey Guys,

Just got the game active from Steam Pre-order.
Running an ATI Radeon 4850 and I'm having this problem too.
Granted I could play with the issue; but I'd like to see it resolved.

Something I don't understand is that during Character Creation/Main Menu/Weapon Screen there is no graphical issue for me.
However, in game it's a different story. Lots'a Lines! ^^

Someone mentioned "Have you turned shadows off"; You're not able to turn off Shadows, only set them to Medium or High.

I downloaded 1.15a Hotfix right now, but I haven't installed it; especially after reading what you guys wrote here.

Much Thanks

-Drazzan-

1.5a hotfix sounds like a disaster, I have the impression it only helps for the 6xxx series

News Confirmed : its ATI problem , we r complaining at the wrong forum :celebration:

Link please. When you say something like "confirmed" it's typically a good thing to show how it was confirmed.

So, this is not an issue for the 58XX cards then? Reading this thread I saw only 38XX and 48XX cards mentioned for people having the problems.

I'm on the fence about buying this game. If there were a demo and I could be sure it ran well I wouldn't have a problem with buying it.

ANY ATI users on the fence with this game should hold off, at least for a few days. That's what I suggest anyways, for better or worse.

People who are using the 11.5a hotfix drivers: if you're getting horrible stuttering, try rolling back your drivers to 11.3 (download 11.3, uninstall all ATI software, reboot, install 11.3). I still get the lines but I have a reasonable frame rate.

Hey to whoever is getting the jittery lines: I remember I tried tweaking some things in Catalyst Control Center and only came across the lines after setting my Power Control to +20%. It's under the Performance tab under AMD Overdrive. Give that a shot. I apologize in advance if anyone has suggested this already and doesn't work as I've only encountered it once and can't test it right now. Also I know how annoying it can be to hear the same (useless to you) advice over and over again. ;) Anyway hopefully that helps someone. Seems like people are reporting some weird stuff happening with different PC configurations so all we can really hope for is a good ol' PC patch to fix this game up.. I know my $50 would welcome it. :/

Oh btw:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300@2.50ghz
ASUS Rampage Formula Mobo
8GB GSkill DDR2 PC-6400 RAM
XFX Radeon HD 6970 2GB GPU (Core Clock: 880 MHz Memory Clock: 1375 MHz)

More than enough to run it and still can't play: Priceless :/

Brink (PC) has just been released and seems like there are few issues that need Splash Damage’s attention. I won’t whine about these issues rather talk about how you can fix these and experience smooth gameplay.

In this Brink Troubleshooting Guide, I have explained how you can fix general errors, crashes and other problems. Most importantly how to fix ATI performance issues, and how to tweak the game for best performance and increase your FPS.

1# Brink (PC) ATI Driver Fix
First turn on in-game console. For this go to your steam library and find brink. Right click and choose properties. The on the General tab select SET LAUNCH OPTIONS and add this.

+com_allowconsole 1

Start up brink and open the console with tilde key, and type ‘r_shadows 0′ without quotes.

After this tweak. Download and install the latest ATI HotFix Drivers.

2# Brink Multiplayer Servers Not Responding, Connection Issues and Server Joining Problem
Forward these ports and you will be able to connect to servers just fine.

UDP/TCP 27015, 27016 and 8766

3# Brink – Blue Screen of Death Fix
Turn off motion blur in game options, this will fix this issue. Add these console graphics tweaks:

r_useHighQualityPostProcess 0
r_useMotionBlur 0

4# Brink – Crash at Desktop/Start Up
OpenGL used by the game engine seem to the root cause of this issue. At the moment, it appears that if you are forcing triple buffering through your card, it will crash the game at start up. Make sure you aren’t forcing triple buffering through the card. Also make sure you have updated Drivers.

5# OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver
Lower the game resolution a bit and it will resolve.

6# Brink Error creating game rendering context
If on start up you are receiving “Error creating game rendering context”, and the only option you have is to quit. If you are using nVidia card, Disable Triple Buffering and If you are using ATI card, try the hotfix above.

7# Brink – No Sound
Make sure you run the game in stereo. If the problem persists, update your sound card drivers.

8# Brink – Low FPS and Performance
Install the latest ATI hotfix pr nVidia Updated Drivers which address these issues.
Disable Motion Blue.
Disable Shadows.
Disable Triple Buffering.
Optimize the game for multi cores using this console tweak:
seta r_useThreadedRenderer 2

9# Game Freezes at Save The Arc, Escape The Arc Screen

10# Brink – Texture Bugs, Graphics Issue

11# Brink – Grid Effect and Blue Tinted Screen
This issue is associated with people running the game on ATI video card. Refer to ATI Fix to resolve this issue.

12# How to Skip Intro Movies
Simply rename your assets folder.

Steam\steamapps\common\brink\base\video\assets

13# How to Change FOV
In the console type g_fov XX. Where XX is your FOV; default (and lowest) is 70.

If you face any other issues, let us know and we will try to help you out. You can check our other Brink Guides through the link.

Please note the hot fix only works for 5 and 6 series cards. Also some other handy commands:

r_useHBAO 0 (Haven't noticed a difference.)
seta image_anisotropy 0 (Untested)
seta image_filter GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST (Untested)
seta r_shadows 0 (Makes an amazing difference)
seta r_useThreadedRenderer 2 (Seems to be good btu may cause crashes and lock ups)

The quote didn't really help us since the grid issue is unique to the 4xxx cards. It disurbs me that SD seems to be expecting AMD to fix their game and is ignoring those of us who are stuck with the gridlines. This should be one of their highest priorities for pc patches. Once again, news that some attempt is being made to fix this issue would be much appreciated.

Same boat - I keep urging myself on to play this, then logging off after 20min of playing.

Its amazing how my fps goes 80fps Menu / 50Fps cinematic / 30 fps in challenges / 15-20 fps in campaigns or online....

Its unplayable in the sense that "im not enjoying it".... I really wish it would improve- Ive tried EVERY tweak possible, from downloading the "brink config tool" - Disabling almost everything from V sync - Shadows, bloom, MB , AO - And i even have it on "low texture" - I have a 4650 Radeon 1gb (With a great cache unlike everyones 4650 512mb) - the card is solid, runs everything i throw at it.

Im glad the new 19mb patch cleared up everything else from Grid lines - Lag - Performance etc...But the fps range/coding is still beyond poor.

I keep logging on every 10min in desperation that something will change and my gameplay will be smooth.

Cause i can see this game being amazing, but right now....just not enjoyable - and i dont want to ruin my experience any further from first impressions on a game ive followed for 3 years.

EDIT - ITs also true about the "Older" drivers are better, for anyone with problems still...i recommend you rollback to 11.3.
