I recently went to a convention where I saw a prototype for a Helmet/Gas Mask combination that looks eerily similar to the NCR ranger helmet, and I thought you guys would appreciate pictures of it. Apparently this is a prototype of an actual helmet being developed for the US military.

It does look a little like the Ranger vets helmets.

It doesn't look..anything like the helment. It's just a black gasmask+helmet.

What is the armor that goes with it?

Essentially the combo and design the ranger vet and even other power armor helmets followed, putting past different materials/designs used.

Seriously. You blind? It's a very similar design in that the helmet, and gas mask are designed as one piece. The goggles part looks a little different (better I think). Very nice picts. I want one!

The helmet in the OPs pic looks like generic riot armor IMO.

I suppose you guys are right. On a side by side comparison there are major differences. I don't see this kind of stuff everyday, and I hadn't played Fallout recently. I just thought it was cool and reminded me of Fallout. I don't think either helmet was inspired by the other, and that's not what I'm saying.
