Where Do I Aim Those Big 3 Legged Heavies...?

Post » Sat Mar 28, 2009 4:21 am

Hey, where the heck do I aim on those 3 legged heavies? When I try and nail them with a Jaw they seem to contract and protect...what the heck do I do and/or aim at?

Anywhere the jelly spot is exposed, mostly from the back.

the most effective way to kill them is to grab an HMG and KEEP FIRING.

every time you do a "level" of damage, the head rotation resets. that way, you can kill the Pinger (that's its name) in under 30 seconds.

does anyone else experience something strange? the Pinger seems to be able to see you when it's alerted. that is, when it has seen you, and you hide behind something and you run away cloaked, it'll fire on you.

also, when cloaked, there is a good chance it will still face you and walk to you.

Tips and Tricks:

-the Pinger is not tankable. even with the HMG strategy, there is a good chance you can not deal the last level of damage (there are 4 if i checked correctly). the Pinger will face toy and shoot. make sure that at all times, there is cover within a few seconds.

-the First Pinger is IMHO the hardest. it doesn't easily expose it's back to you. from where you arrive, go to the left. there is an HMG there. grab it, stay either cloaked or in cover. when it's back is open, switch to armor mode and fire on it's exposed back.

-the Second Pinger is the second hardest. there are multiple HMG's and even two swarmers. however this one will face you a lot. ceph come in periodically.

-the third Pinger is IMHO the easiest. save the HMG for the pinger. kill the other ceph (quickly, they respawn), then open fire with your HMG. keep firing.

other effective weapons:

JAW's. and Swarmers. really. the Ltag isn't easy to aim.

^ that may depend on difficulty level. I think (but don't quote me on it) it took 3 C4 on its back to kill on Veteran. It's difficult to take them down sometimes because they can swivel their turret so quickly xD

You might want to try a K-volt as it does a great job of stunning the Ceph (being 70% cyborg). Not sure how well it will work on these guys. I just thought of it. Might try it tonight. ... just good luck finding one. ;)

Best way I found to take them down with the jackel, if you dont have a jackel, use your primary weapon and shoot the generator on its back non-stop. Also, try to sneak behind it in stealth and plow them down with your armor when your shooting them. And make sure that you watch the awareness level on your radar so that when its close to unaware, you sneak behind it.

Also, throwing grenades at it's feet seems to do a fair bit of damage.

For some odd reason after preparing a pack of C4's for one of those guys (the one before the cutscene where you're dropped off the VTOL to go on your way to Lockhart, I didn't even detonate my c4. That fool heavy used its area of effect thingie when it was almost standing right below the c4 trap and just triggered the explosion.
I was like O_O and then xD given it was my first try on the Post Human Warrior run. I thought I was going to be having a lot more problems and have to do a bunch of retries but nay!

C4 for the win!
