so Kinect

Post » Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:18 am

does anyone feel Kinect could help with 3D by making the game notice you and try to put the particles(of whatever sort) your way? This could largely improve the current 3D in games, if the game knows where you are, and you could interact with the atmosphere through touch(or imaginative touch at least)!

Agreed.

Might happen on ps3, but you should wait with these ideas until the next generations of consoles get out :D

Still these "move" and kinect" things are more a thing fore casual games and dont really "touch" hardcoe gamers.
I also think its more a thing for kids than for advlts.
Look how stupid it already looks to play on Wii.

Hahaha, agreed completely. That would be insanely difficult and cost way too much money to develop it for even the gaming PC's.

you never know if microsoft gets behind it enough! they have been able to get kinect(and must I say some of the stuff it does would brick a first gen if just turned on! believe me) so if they try enough they could, maybe not crysis but a Microsoft game studios game possibly!

It's less precise in terms of accuracy.

I think it is interesting how hardcoe is being translated as FPS in this thread. I think of hardcoe as game driven. hardcoe is a loyal and devoted player who might even purchase other game related materials like books, stragety guides, statues, or even cosplay. hardcoe doesn't mean bad ass to me, and neither does FPS, although I believe I am both badass and an avid FPS player.

I believe statistically story and character driven games like those in MMOs and RPGs have more devoted 'hardcoe' fans. Final Fantasy, Metroid, Mario Brothers, Metal Gear, Tomb Raider, etc. are all examples of very strong titles with an undeniable hardcoe fan base that are not FPS games. Many of those games could be improved by a motion controller like Move, Wiimote, or Kinect. Imagine World of Warcraft for a minute without clicking corners of the screen constantly, or binding keys for comboing attacks.

I would like a Kinect Shooter and mentioned how it could amplify the gaming experience in a much more relevant thread here on gamesas.com. If you care to read, although the thread is some 300ish posts long, the link is here:

@tydro123 I like the idea and believe it could be coupled with a memory shape glove (materials that change shape with different electrical currents) for force feedback for the closes thing to virtual reality this side of the century. We have gotten to a place technologically with sound and visuals where we can be immersed, touch is the obvious next step. Until there is that 1 to 1 respond with our senses, we will still be pretending...

when did everyone start to think my post meant you played only kinect, I meant use kinect as an atmosphere addition not the controller! and I agree with neokinesis hardcoe is not only FPS it is definately RTS(only for hardcoe, casually wouldnt dream to touch that) and RPG and others! also @neokinesis I am not sure i would want to "wear" something but yes I agree!

I guess but it is a safer alternative to Spinal Plugs...

At E3 a couple years ago I saw a technology called the Peregrine Glove which was pretty interesting in how it could change keyboard usage if it ever caught on. It bound key combinations to finger twists taps and pressing them together with your thumb in different combinations. Almost everyone could eventually learn sign language if we used the same movements for typing a paragraph of text. It also had a quick release so you weren't bound to a plug.

I picked up a really cool looking shirt with the blueprints silk screened on the front, when I was there.
