Crysis Multiplayer Crash

Post » Fri Apr 10, 2009 10:47 am

First off just let me say that this problem has probably been posted 72.583 times on this website. Secondly, they were all useless to me. Here's my situation. I have Crysis on steam. Steam says I'm updated fully even though the number at the bottom of the in-game screen says 1.1.*a bunch of numbers go here*. I've been told that it is a common problem to have the numbers contradict the real update version, so I can probably trust steam that I'm good to go on the patching. However, after 2-3 minutes of kicking futuristic ass online, (pardon the light french for any 7 year-olds reading this) the game crashes with the infinitely helpful message of "Crysis has stopped working." Is there a fix to this?

Things I've already tried (you'll probably post them anyway):

1. Reinstalling Crysis (no changes)
2. Manually updating the patches (couldn't find the files online)
3. Using the update client (doesn't seem to like the steam version)

P.S. I have Windows 7 64-bit.

If the game locks up with a "Crysis has stopped working" then that's a full app crash and likely to be something external to the game itself. As you said, you've reinstalled it, tried manually updating, etc... i'd suggest that something else is causing the error. Tried playing any other games?

hmm, are you playing 64 bit or 32 bit version? if you are at 64 try 32 and check if the game still crashes (if im not mistaken there should be a different .exe for each?

Hey I don't know exactly why but it seems to work fine if I use the executable in the Bin32 folder instead of running it directly from steam. Likon gave me the idea to look for the executable.

Hmm, is it launching the Steam overlay (does it change your name to green on your friends list and say you're in-game) when you launch from the folder?

i suppose steam must be calling the 64 bit version, and the 32 works better from what i have experienced
