The game needs new encounters badly

Post » Sat Apr 25, 2009 6:57 pm

I guess for new people this doesnt apply but the game needs new encounters all around the map, random or otherwise to keep it fresh.

I'm on my 3rd 28+ level charactor and i know what to expect everywhere on the map. The DLC NEEDS to add more to the main map or the game gets stale.

That's probably the main reason that i went back to playing FO3. This game generally needs more challenge (it's not a bad game, and exceeds FO3 in many ways). There's not really any places you can walk, that's actually dangerous if you're a high level character. Except for the Deathclaw-spammed locations (which really is more annoying than a challenge).

Also, the thing that the center of the map is the safest location, just doesn't work for me. When you reach Freeside and New Vegas, it's just running between those two and doing random ping-pong quests, like guarding the Silver Rush and collecting caps (nofun for me.) :(

Let's hope a future DLC will add more random encounters, and more danger. Overall i belive that this game is most focused on the "Good Natured" kind of player (people who focuses most on Speech, Barter, Medicine), while people who puts most weight on the guns/action/challenging kind of gameplay won't get as much out of it.

A fun game, but 1 playthrough is enough for me.

Edit: Isn't there like 1000 threads about this already?

I feel the same way , more random encounters, and I shouldn't have to take the wild wild wasteland trait just to find these encounters , they should already be in there

NO, random encounter aint random at all; in fact, it feel repetitive and unreasonable ( boring and immersion breaking).

However I would say increase faction patrols along the roads to create some "drama".

Main problem is that the the enemies are too static. I don't want Fallout 3 style level scaling, but having level ranges for certain places to help make it somewhat harder might be nice.
A little variety where they spawn, how many and perhaps allowing them to encounter each other would spruce things up further.

I agree. The roads can feel too empty and they need a bit more going on and a bit more conflict. But I like the way FNV makes sense as a believable environment as opposed to not being able to walk 100 yards without being attacked by a randomly spawning level scaled creature that has no reason for being there except to provide some action because you need to be shooting something as often as possible. I thought that got a bit boring as opposed to upping the excitement. Where the hell did all those crazed robots wandering the wasteland in F3 come from. And the random encounters could be pretty nonsensical. Two guys idly discussing an eyebot while albino radscorpions and sentry bots rampage across the wasteland close by - I don't think so. And they don''t feel very random when you've seen each one 5 times

your problem will be solved then. It has options for spawn size multipliers and sets stronghold guards and patrols in faction territories. So you can see patrols of rival factions fighting in the wastes.
