So why exactly can't the top of my D-Pad be a hotkey?

Post » Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:59 pm

When playing on an Xbox 360, the buttons on the D-Pad can be assigned as hotkeys. In Fallout 3, they were all available for use, and I had my main weapon assigned to the very top one. In NV, however, there is a permanent icon blocking that slot and I have no idea what it's for. It doesn't do a damn thing, and I find it annoying that I can't use that space for something useful. What gives? What is that for? I can't tell what that icon is.

The top button of the D pad is for ammo. Say you have a 9mm. You're fighting a foe in Metal Plating. Your standard ammo isn't cutting it, hit the top D pad and flick to Armor Piercing rounds (assuming you have some. And boom, you can cut through his armor like a deathclaw through butter on a hot day.

Oh. Well I feel dumb. I'm level 27 and I'm just now noticing that I don't have to switch with my Pip-Boy every time...

I'm using nothing but hand loads at this point anyway.

Don't worry about it, it took me a while to figure it out too. But I only use standard ammo, so it's a useless feature for me.

How are you killing Giant Radscorpions then? I have a mod that removes that 20% damage that goes trough DT, so i can shoot all standard 5mm ammo in the world to a single scorpion and make a dent :bolt:

By killing them. I mainly use a Hunting Shotgun, 9mm pistol, cowboy repeater, and a sniper rifle.

I only carry one type of ammo now for each gun I have. It seems the game wants to default to weaker bullets first. This way I have what I want.

In other words, the Ammo Swap feature is completely useless to me. I know other's use it, but let me move the dang thing so I can do something else with it. (I'm on PC so it is the 2 key)

And those actually do damage without AP ammo? Well, the shotgun does with Shotgun Surgeon perk.
