Playing as a Sniper?

Post » Sat May 09, 2009 8:31 pm

Anybody having any luck with the Sniper Rifle(s)? (only 2 so its not like there are any choices). I’ve used the DSG -1 almost exclusively and while I don’t see the auto aim issues others are reporting (I’m guessing its do to the mobility of the gun), I’m curious if anybody is having success using it over the SCAR or other starter guns.

I'm going to be 100% honest... The size of some of the maps makes sniping a waste. But to answer your question I've got maybe 4 kills total with it and now its hanging in my virtual closet forever.

Not having having much luck with the DSG-1 (can't unlock the other one for a while).
Feels like the 100 kills with sniper-scope assesment is going to a pain to get...

I think the sniping is sorta of a waste except for the map Wall Street. Pretty easy to snipe there well in my opinion. the rest... well... not so great sniping on other maps

It's not realistic to draw conclusions about the game from just 3 individuals (who am I kidding, others have done it from less) but it does seem that Sniping isn't a viable gameplay method as it is now. With any luck, auto aim, hit boxes or whatever Crytek can come up with to address the mechanics will be dealt with in a patch.

I went 9-3 with my sniper class on Pier 17 today. I don't use it a lot, but Pier 17 seems to give me good fortune with distance combat (although I will try Wall Street after reading the above posts). Here's my set up:

Primary Weapon: DSG-1 sniper rifle
Secondary Weapon: Feline + reflex sight + silencer + extended magazine
Grenade: Fragment
Armor Module: Proximity Alarm (alerts you if someone is sneaking up on you)
Stealth Module: Stealth Enhance (lets you transition into stealth quicker)
Power Module: Loadout Pro (gives you a primary weapon as your secondary)

Sniping pretty much equates to camping so it's all about knowing which points on the map can provide you a good visual as well as protection. Your spot always needs an exit in case someone spots you. Always de-cloak before shooting and immediately cloak after your shot. This won't be much of an issue if you get a silencer, but it'll take more shots to get the kill if your opponent is really far away. If you're moving around, keep your secondary out otherwise you'll get smoked. I personally prefer the run and gun method, but Pier 17 is the only exception at the moment where I'll sit back and relax with the DSG-1. It won't get me 1st place, but I still won't be a liability to my team.

I quite like using the sniper rifle on the odd times that I've actually managed to be in a game where everyone has good ping. So far though without the filter and having people on the other side of the world joining your games or joining games on the other side of the world... It makes sniping near impossible.

I doubt you will get many sniping fans here though, the majority will be **** from cod that think quickscoping is real sniping. Seems you can't really quickscope on this. Thankfully.

What sight are you using on the DSG? The red dot sight? (seems like the only one that may be accurate enough for the fast pace of the game)

I'm just using the default scope. I only stick with sniping for really long range. The Feline actually surprises a lot of people with how far it can score a kill so that's why I'd main that for every other map. If you prefer the red dot, then try using the Grendel once you unlock it and switch the firing mode to single shot. It's strong enough to be a low-tier sniper rifle and it's rate of fire will give you better survivability in close to mid-range combat.

finally an sniper threat ...
... i only play with dsg started with lvl 1, i′m lvl 16 yet.
i hope the other sniper rifle is an one shot killer like in mdw2, because sniping in melee situation are one of the difficulty playstyle, in crysis2 is sniping in all situtaion difficult, when i must hit the enemy with 3 hits, with this kind of speed, cloak aso in this game its pretty hard to kill some body with an sniper rifle.

i really hope that quick scoping is possible in this game with the other sniper rifle, when somebody knows if its possible or not pls tell me^^

I can't use the sniper rifle at all or my camera does a 360 turn whenever enemies are near. :(

I'm a big sniper fan in FPS but in Crysis 2 it's so hard to snipe because of all the lags and weird ass bugs! Hope they fix it. :(

You can just run around and give them two quick shots to the body before they even see you. If you are good at it is so fun.
