Maps are way too opened and chaotic

Post » Wed May 13, 2009 9:39 am

Most maps are too small and way too opened. It prevents the players from experiencing a proper structured and truly competitive match.

In other words, a player would hunt one player, start shooting, 5 other opponents would see him on radar or see the bullet traces and turn back to shoot at him. That's chaotic, totally random, not challenging and not competitively interesting. It's a chicken fight.

That type of maps also result in a lot of spawn kills and kills performed after watching kill cams.

Parking is one of the best maps, since most of the paths are separted from the rest, because of the different line of sights that are blocked. People are forced to move through the map to hunt and use a lot of teamwork to control the different areas.

It would be nice to have less opened maps in future DLC for better competitive gaming.

You don't HAVE to be in the open, hide behind things, do hit-n-run attacks, snipe, cloak and stealth kill etc etc etc.....

But mostly hit-n-run, haha.

You can't really run and gun in this game so choose your targets wisely, and also use enemy detector perk. If your in tdm i would suggest rolling in pairs or group of 3 and holding the fort otherwise you can get ambush pretty easy in this game.

that's the same for any game. if you run at somebody and start shooting at them in the middle of nothing while your not pay attention, your going to get **** in the ass. don't just run at the first person you see. check your surrounding, learn where people hide, learn where to snipe, learn when to attack. maps are one of the few things that isn't wrong on in multi

I'm talking about opened map that do not offer distinctive paths that prevents players from shooting each others from everywhere in a map. Player will just circle around the map and everyone spawning in the middle will get spawn kill.

sounds like your mad that you can't hide and kill people anywhere in the map from your one spot?
if so, your **** retarded.
if not, most maps in all games are set up in this sort of fashion. its to try to limit a players capacity to rampage with almost no opposition. it also helps prevent being stuck at one side of the map, spawning and looking at the other team before a hailstorm of bullets eats your face

Stop thinking about me in the shower and think about the main topic. The maps in Crysis 2 are pretty much designed in the same way the maps in Modern Warfare 2 were designed, which totally svcks since it requires a player to cover more than 200 degrees, which is impossible even in dual team. That's poor MP design, if you understand anything about Level Design.

When I'm talking about structured map, I'm talking about maps that are similar to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Soldier of Fortune 2, Counter-Strike, Rainbow Six, Halo 2 or even Battlefield 1943. That way it prevents camping, spawnkilling, it forces players to move all around the map and separate themselves strategically in order to spot upcoming attacks, etc.

And yes, I mentionned Battlefield: 1943, because even if the maps are opened, the way they are designed doesn't allow a squad to cover everything from a singleploint, they need to move around the map unlike BF: BC2 in which you can cover most flags from a single camping spot.

do you even know what your talking about?
the first part of that post your disappointed because you can't cover most of the map from any given spot
then you mention how it should be like games that never allowed you to cover the map from any given position.
plus all of those game had spawn killing in them at some point

I actually think the maps in Crysis 2 are some of the best that have launched with a game even though they're all pulled from the campaign. Just like Chris said all games have many types of maps including opened up maps with little cover.

Where did you read that?
I said the Crysis 2 maps were bad, because they don't require a squad to have any strategic position and cover a path, not the whole map. There is no point in being in an area form which you could get flanked from any direction; it's a mess, unless it's one particular area that is meant that way (hall, lobby, warehouse, etc.), but if the whole map is like that; it's bad design.

But hey, if you like that type of map it's good for you. One day you'll understand more about level design and appreciate better maps. One thing at a time... it's a big era for casual gaming.
