Tips for Multiplayer

Post » Sun May 24, 2009 12:44 am

Ive only just started playing Crysis 2 and im enjoying the MP side of the game my only problem is that i svck horribly (guess thats what you get for playing rp games not shooters) im not asking for any hacks or anything like that just general tips for a complete novice to the game and shooters in general even small tips woulds be appreciated.

So far on my own ive experienced that the scar's range is greater than i first thought and that stealth seems kinda useless as i seem to be easily detected even at ranged by some players even though i cant seem to do the same but im probably just not use to spotting things like that yet.

Thanks in advance

In the start try to remember and understand the entire maps you play.
Try not to open yourself to to many angles that people can fire from.
Play alot and try not to get angry or irretated cause it hurts your play.
Aiming will come by itself.
anolyze how and why you die and try to take perks that reduce those weakness you think you have.

Slow down and work with others. I find myself dying alot more when I lonewolf play. Try to find someone that will stick with you and work as a team. Cover corners and watch out for the ambush. Nothing helps when you get head shot by the f***** snipers. Even running at full speed and still clean one shot kill. I will never understand that.

? Learn the maps
? Watch the radar for nearby enemies
? Check your corners
? Use nanovision to detect cloaked enemies (especially if you suspect someone is close or near objectives) and listen for footsteps
? Keep moving - don't stay in the same place too long, especially if you've just killed someone (they might be coming back for you once repawned)
? Stick close to teammates, especially in objective-based game modes (eg crash site, capture the rely, etc)
? Aim high - ie head/chest
? Use stealth when out in the open
? Don't shoot while in stealth, it drains all your energy which you may need for sprinting or armour mode
? Switch to armour mode when in combat, it might save your life
? Don't enter a combat situation with low energy
? Choose weapons and modules that suit your playing style and level them up for improved effectiveness

- If you have a good pair of headphones, use them as it will greatly increase your awareness. ( Sound of decloaking units and people moving )

- Bind Nanovision to a more suitable key, personally I found "N" an inconvenience and have now reloacated it to one of my side mouse buttons. ( As a result I use it alot more often and you really should, it's great. )

- Use your grenades in a hotspot before running in, they're extremely powerful if the enemy is caught out of Maximum Armour.

- Use a weapon which benefits your playstyle, If you prefer a mix of everything then the Scar is currently considered the best. For CQC personally I'd rather a Feline over any other weapon choice. Very long range the Sniper Rifle is naturally the best.

- Make sure your Modules center around your type of gun;

If you're going to be up close and personally, I'd tend to advise Stealth Enhance/Tracker, Mobility Enhance and Nano Transfer ( Quick to stealth, quick movement for escaping/attacking and earning energy back for killing ).

For an Assault Rifle class there's a few options, personally I've found Nano Transfer, Tracker/Blind spot and Retrieval work best. ( With Nano transfer you have the potential to take on a few enemies at a time with Maximum armour on, Tracker for location enemies or Blind spot to avoid detection and earning kill streaks from a distance.

For a Sniper Rifle, personally I'd pick Nano Transfer again.. Blind Spot and Retrieval. ( Cloaking instantly after a kill, Undetectable by Maximum radar and you'll get Kill streaks from a distance. )

Again these are personal preference, pick what suits your style the most!

- Learn your maps and always out flank your enemies when possible, there are plenty of options for different approaches thanks to brilliant map design.

- Don't risk your life for Dog tags, whilst the rewards are beneficial they are not game winners.

- Always switch to your pistol when reloading, it's much quicker and will usually catch your opponents off guard - I recommend the Nova 12 with extended mags, Large clip size and quick firing to polish off weakened enemies.

- Remember to Slide, this seems like a less obvious tip but depending on your weapon loadout it's very effective.. Personally I've used the Feline before and sliding whilst hip firing will often earn you a kill on an enemy who's reactions aren't up to speed.

- Try to avoid super jumps where possible, this uses a large amount of energy which could cause you problems if you're then caught in a firefight.

- Never break stealth by shooting if possible, always activate Maximum armour and then start firing.

- Aim for the Chest since the hit detection at the moment is rather poor resulting in shots not hitting where they should, by aiming for the chest you increase your chances of killing with lower bullet spread.

As more come to mind I'll post them on here, hope any of this helps and sorry if anyone mentioned these before.. didn't read them all :)

I consider myself a "skilled" FPSer, and I hit a nice learning curve for the multiplayer when I started. However, I quickly learned how to vastly improve my gameplay and style with the following tips.

First off, imitation is one of the best forms of flattery. What I mean by this is to look at what "perks/loadouts" the top players in your servers are using to find good combinations. For example, alot of skilled players i've seen use the following loadout :

Feline with extended mag + silencer
2ndary of personal choice
Energy Transfer
Stealth Enhance
Mobility Enhance.

I tried it out and found it to be enjoyable.

Secondly, make sure to have and make use of the custom loadouts you're provided with. The previous loadout I mentioned is great for CQC, but on more open and larger maps, I prefer to use the scar with other perks. It's always nice to be able to switch to a personalized loadout depending on the situation you're in or the people you're playing against.

Thirdly, be patient, whether you're learning a new map or loadout combination, you won't be amazing when you first start. Keep at it, and be open to change in your play style or strategies.

Fourthly, make use of the nanosuit at all times, if you're not sprinting, armoring, stealthing, high jumping, or recharging, you're wasting your most powerful tool. Also, don't just keep nanovision on for extended periods if you're in corridors or large areas; enable it for a second or two and disable just to do a quick check if you feel like there may be a stealthy around...

and to stop my long post....
FINALLY- make your own decisions, these tips of mine are exactly that, MY tips. If you don't like them, use your own methods. An individual's play style and strategies aren't going to always work for someone else, so don't be afraid to experiment on your own.

My biggest problem is reaction time. It takes me half a second to realize that the person snuck behind me, then another half-second to react. Another half-second to locate them in my visor. There, I'm dead now. =/

Sooo... get your reaction time to the point where you barely think about it. I should do that too.

Always work the outside of maps. Never run in the middle where people are constantly looking.

Run in stealth. I know you seem not to have much success in it but you should be getting spotted unless someone is in their visor searching the area or a sniper has visor enhanced.

Along with stealth, keep nano vision on. The energy is drained by a large amount but the key is not to be seen first and for you to have the jump on someone. Until you get more accuracte you need the jump on most people.

Manage your energy! Find spots you can stop at throughout the map where very people run across so you always have full energy when entering a fight.

(Most important tip here if you are looking to keep that K/D high) - I know if you see someone your initial recation is "Shoot the ****!" lol and I do that many-a-times. The key here is always make sure you know how many people are in the area before initiating combat. Knowing if an enemy is solo or has back up may help you choose whether or not you should even initiate the fight or wait for back up. If you are going solo and find an enemy in a group of 2 or 3, you may want to start by targeting them with visor. This way you can keep track of the without having to really keep an eye on where they are going. If there is no time, you may just want to run past then and live to see another kill. When I'm feeling confident I will get behind the group and start by throwing a grenade. Then I open fire when the group is all facing the same way. After the first kill, take cover and then open back up to get the next kill. That means you know where they are but they don't know which direction you will be coming form next.

These are general rules I keep for myself when I get hot headed. You will slowly get a feel for your own play style and how to assess each situation. Once you develop better shooting, you will know when the other players are better than you or not and whether it's smart to take on two. Just make sure you stay confident and keep your mind thinking. Get in the 'zone' and you will find your reactions insane! lol its sort of a psychotic mind set you can get in to

I also found the ability to live longer is harder when it's 8 on 8 because there are too many people roaming around. The demo was much easier to survive with only 6 on 6. So maybe try getting on a server with less people.

This may not be applicable but was not mentioned. Check your fps/ping. (for pc only of course) I went down a resolution and greatly improved my ability to make moves before my opponent because the game was just faster. (higher fps) For servers where my ping is greater than 150, I just leave.

Everything else that others have mentioned is really good advice so make sure to take it!
