Just another Call of Duty?

Post » Thu May 28, 2009 7:24 pm

I've here to express my thoughts on the Multiplayer an explain my reasoning for the title.

Just so you know I have a 3.1 K/D before we get started..

Right so I go into a Game and I was bored of Running and Gunning with the Feline so I try out some skill based weapons like the DSG and Grendel, And it felt such a chore using these, this is normal because they require more focus and aim but, the problem is that, There is no Reward for using these.

What I mean is there is No notable advantage to make you want to use these even though they require more skill to use, Theres no kill time advantage since the Scar does the same damage as the grendel ( yeah, I know right? ), And the snipers are only advantagous when used at long range and get the first shot.

Coupled with the Lag/Hit detection issues it makes these guns even more of a chore to use and if anything, are a disadvantage to use and feel as if they're a "lol" gun used for humiliation.

And this is the reason why it's just another call of duty, It's a Run and Gun talored Game where other styles of play, although are taken into account, are at a disadvantage.

There is no progression in skill, theres not a "step up" in skill. It's Insta win gameplay where you have the easiest and most effective way right from the start.

It seems that Crytek focused more on Visual beauty rather than the gameplay or rather the multiplayer was a hollow job in my opinion where they've just lifted a Call of Duty system and implemented Crysis style features on top.

It's kinda hard to explain but, even when I do extremely well like 24 - 0, after the game I feel like " bleh whatever ", It's not a bad multiplayer by any means, it's just, meh.

I Really loved the Campaign though, Its one of the best campaign experiences I've ever had in my gaming lifetime 5 Stars on that.

I'm just really dissapointed, I was expecting a skill based Multiplayer, something that I havnt seen in a new release in years, its boring very quickly and lacks depth.

I agree sir, countless hours of grinding, got the good weapons and everything seems so basic and simple. The game looks great the but gameplay has countless amounts of blemishes. Hit detection and the melee concept is just so terrible, and the killcams? How could I die from 3 hits with the feline when I put a whole scar clip into him, pointblank. This game requires so many fixes, back to single player games until a game worth my time comes out, with MP at least. Thank God for GameFly.

I spelled that wrong but like I was saying I excel at sniping and a lot of players doing the run and gun don't usually win and teams with a sniper or two usually win I learned this from experience especially when they have a spotter using the visor

I most definitely agree Blendassist. The way the hit detection is currently applied in this game, has turned it into a spray and pray game. Precision aiming has taken a backseat towards whoever shoots the most bullets in the general direction wins. I was wondering, have you played the first demos?

Same thing here, I really believe they nailed the hit detection in the 2nd demo in my opinion. Maximum armor did it's job, strafing could turn tides in shootouts and spraying and praying didn't get you anything but an empty magazine clip.

I believe what you suggest could help the current hit detection no doubt but it'll still be too much spamming with the aiming in my opinion. Certain midrange weapons need more magnetism and need to be able to drop opponents accurately and decisively.

Spraying and Praying is encouraged in two ways, regardless of the game.

1) Lag. Why waste time ADS and aiming when - if you are precise - you miss due to latency? Waste a clip on someone and actually get a kill instead!
2) Damage Model. With Armour and non-armour damage models it's usually best if you see some one just to activate armour and spray rather than aim.

Only one of these is really the responsibility of a developer, and in any case some games are designed to be this way and others not. The scale of the game rewards hip firing in an effort to create tension and 'loud' gameplay. If you encourage Hip Fire you encourage people to run around. If you make precise aiming too beneficial all you get is a bunch of rooftop campers.
