One thing that kills me about New Vegas

Post » Tue Jun 02, 2009 11:50 am

I'm not bashing Bethesda or anything but couldn't they have taken more time to get rid of these many invisible walls ? It seems as if every time I turn around, I seem to hit an invisible wall, when there should not be one. WHY!! is all I can say about this. I have never gotten so upset because of such a little glitch, Its like I get over this giant cliff or mountain and BLAM! Invisible wall.

I think Bethesda got a little lazy?

Are the invisible walls the work of poor design? I always thought they were purposely put in to make the game more challenging.

I usually run into them when I'm trying to go directly over a large mountain or cliff. Something stops me and I have to walk all the way around. :C

Other then that I know there's one at Nellis AFB to keep you from cheating your way through the artillery barrage.

What kind of problems have you been having with them? :0

They were put there for a reason. And that reason was: Let the player wander everywhere = More crashes and glitches.

Well By the Train Yard for one I try to cut over the cliff to Nipton to avoid death claws, Its obviously a possible place to walk and here it is a invisible wall that stops me.

I just ignore them.
They're so many that I don't even bother to go up at any high ground anymore, I just chill out on the lower ground instead.

That's just the thing, this isn't Bethesda's game. If it was, there wouldn't be any ;)

I think Invisible Walls are the work of Chief Hanlon as apart of his plan to "Fortify Existing NCR Positions..."

And the invisible walls would probably not be there if the game had not been pushed out the door too soon by Bethesda. :whistling:

I explored almost everywhere in the map in FO3. In NV, half the map is unavailable/blocked off for no reason. I hate having to follow the roads :swear:

They already blocked off almost half the map, they could have atleast removed the invisible walls XP

I've played though and beat the game 4 different times and have never had a problem with invisible walls. Although, I'm not one to try and shortcut around danger or save time. I kind of like to enjoy the Mojave and not run around on boring mountains.

Highly doubt it for the simple fact that it was probably on Obsidians design table in the first place. So was things like the level cap and ending the game after the main story.

Not throwing any flames out there, just saying it was all really Obsidians ideas. Not Bethesda. Clearly they had a goal and purpose in mind. Some of it just went a little overboard.

Of coarse in terms of the actual ends of the map being geographically blocked, have a feeling BGS has that planned for Skyrim.

Keeping an eye on the title just to see how they've progressed and what we can expect from an iteration up most likely going to be seen from Skyrim's engine along with the storytelling, dialogue, technical design, etc. to be seen by what I hope is a better and more experienced cast headed by Todd Howard for Fallout 4. This is presuming Fallout 4 comes on current hardware and that it's Bethesda's next project. I'm not in any hurry though, I wouldn't mind them not oversaturating the market of such a prestigious name. And maybe they can do some firing/hiring of...er some capable individuals.

Oh lordy lordy how we pray it's not a disappointment.

Nah, they are there to enhance the Deathclaw enforced map exploration rotation direction. A design decision, not an artifact of evil Bethesda like everything that's wrong with this game

Bethesda did not make Fallout3:New Vegas :

They are there on purpose ~deliberately.

Are the invisible walls the work of poor design? I always thought they were purposely put in to make the game more challenging.

The reason they exist (or one of them), is to simplify the geometry of the maps for the AI ~it improves the navigational behavior of NPCs and animals.

Mods exist that remove them, along with the improvements they provide. I've thought that it may have been better to shorten the wall height instead of removing them. A shorter wall could be hopped over by the desperate player/PC, and pinning projectiles would no longer stick to the air (except below knee height).

OH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!! :swear:

Ughhhh, I remember while I was waiting with held breath for NV to come out, people were saying that the map was so much bigger than it was in FO3. Oh yeah, bigger alright AND YOU CAN'T ACCESS HALF OF IT! I remember in fallout 3 there was something in each and every corner, the map was actually used, there were actual locations even in the "ass-end" of the capital wasteland! :twirl:

Lower ground is a disadvantage, every military operation involving hills has proved this.

I don't believe that's the reason behind them ...If so then that's just really lazy of them.
