The Intel Core i5 480m is a dual-core CPU, so you have 2 cores.

The reason some gadgets -and why you probably got confused- is that each core supports up to 2 threads thanks to the Hyperthreading technology, which would make your processor support up to 4 threads simultanously, similar to the Core 2 Quads.

The i5 480m is a dual core processor - 2 physical cores, 2 virtual (due to hyperthreading).

2 physical cores is what's important hardware wise, think of the 2 virtual as a nice benefit. ;)
