The Features Missed

Post » Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:52 am

As we are all aware by now, there are some MAJOR features that just don't feel (or aren't even) there that we saw in Crysis 1, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis Wars.

The AI and the aliens: Honestly, it doesn't seem as smart as it used to be. Also, I now miss getting my ass kicked by aliens flying from all different directions, doing that power leap jump attack thing that can almost kill you in one hit and does. Except for the Pinger, these guys are "dropping like flies." - Psycho

Give us back that destructible environment! WTF! That was perhaps the coolest feature in Crysis 1/Warhead besides the physics that accompanied the destruction and the Nanosuit. The destructible environment allowed an alternative to sandbox. Why go around or find new paths when you can MAKE your own path through a building or forest?

PRONE. Just because there's not enough buttons on a console game pad to accommodate a prone function doesn't mean we shouldn't get it either. It's not like its an advantage to us, we don't play vs. the 360/PS3.

More sandbox: IT'S TOO LINEAR! I remember being able to spend over a few hours on one mission in Crysis 1; partly because the missions wear long, but because they were so open-ended. Hell, I just messed around because I wanted to enjoy the sights and figure out new ways of doing things. Sandbox does not mean left, right, stealth left, stealth right.

Speaking of enjoying the sights... I think we are all aware of the DX11/graphics issue. I don't think I even need to bother elaborating (just most of the other posts regarding graphics). Although, I will give Crytek some credit in that the game was still visually stunning, just not as stunning as we had hoped after waiting so long for a game that would run on new tech.

Massive gunfights. Come on, why do we have to be limited to so few players in a game nowadays? That goes for every platform. EVERYONE should be able to enjoy a mass online slaughterfest here and there (remember Dome from CoD: WaW? 64 players, all armed with rifle grenades. Both fun and funny!).

Power Struggle. This was the gametype in which a single match could go on for a long time, which allowed people to hop in and out of the game and still being able to enjoy a length game.

Raptor team survivors, Helena, the island, & the time gap. Where are they? What happened to the characters that grew on us? If we didn't see them here, we sure as hell better see them next time around! Regarding the island, a change in scenery was a good choice, but we still want to know what happened there. And what did our characters do during the time between C1 and C2?

I'm sure the list goes on. In all fairness, Crysis 2 was pretty entertaining though. The storyline was interesting, including the secrets of the suit. But it felt more like a standalone that can be later tied into the main story. The events were significant, but it feels like we needed more leading up to it; particularly, the knowledge of what happened between C1 and C2 (could have actually made a GREAT addition to the franchise to be released to hold us over 'till C2, just as Warhead and its additional storyline did). In general, I feel like it did great as its own game, but as a part of the Crysis franchise, it seems that it didn't live up to the reputation of beauty and awe that Crytek is known for. However, it's still a fun game, and I continue to play it. Just wanted to point out some of the features that we the PC gamers grew to love and enjoy so much that were so suddenly taken away.

Well, I've said my piece. Those who read it fully, thanks for reading and taking the time to do so.
