A Call for Bethesda to release Van Buren The Real (Fallout 3

Wiki:

The character would start the game as a prisoner; whether the character was wrongfully imprisoned or guilty was to be determined at character creation. The game would have started in a strange prison as it was attacked by an unnamed force. An explosion would knock the character unconscious, and the cell door would be open when he awakened. The player would then escape into the wasteland while being pursued by strange assailants. After leaving, the character would have the power to shape the destiny of the wasteland. His interactions with organizations such as the Brotherhood of Steel could bolster or destroy the organizations, influencing people associated with them, much as in the previous two Fallout games.

One of the more significant elements of the plot and backstory of Van Buren was to be an ongoing war between the Brotherhood of Steel and the New California Republic. The game's ultimate plotline was planned so that the events in the beginning of the game would have been part of a scheme by a rogue New California Republic scientist, Dr. Victor Presper, to seize control of a U.S. orbital nuclear weapons platform and use it to initiate a second nuclear holocaust, cleansing the world of all but his chosen few. In the end, the player would not be able to stop all of the missiles from launching, and his or her decisions on where the missiles would strike would ultimately have decided the future of the world.

I would love to see Bethesda or whoever owns this stuff to release all the details etc related to this project. What would then be great is for a modder or someone else to develop this in to Bethesda's Fallout 3.

This original Fallout 3 game was sure to be far better than the current game we have and it is a shame Bethesda did not take this game further, it was afterall 80% completed.

Hahahaha, you're funny.

Freedom for the developers, not the players. And junk items were 1:just an example, 2:ammo for the rock it 3: helped immersion by addition of everyday items.

And in all three points, it doesnt change the gameplay of the game in a radical way that would mean that you couldnt judge the game by the tech demo. As for the Rock It Launcher, its beside the point when discussing VB

If the VB tech demo is so crappy why don't they just release the source? That would allow people to improve it and do what the real Fallout fans wanted to see. If Bethesda is afraid that it wil be a better game, then they should seriously reconsider how the made/make games.

Van Buren was good in a way, it had some nice Graphics, the way you could wear clothes and whatnot was nice, but it really did have a kind of "Tactics" feel to it. FO1 = nice, FO2 = nice, tactics and BoS were just complete piles of crap.

I'm not a massive bethesda devoted fan but FO3 isn't a bad game, OK yeah imo they simply grabbed some quick cash by essentially making an oblivion mod, and a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER with guns with ZERO SPREAD in a RTS?? Its kinda retarded, but FO3 could have been a lot worst. Beth at least have the rights now, and maybe if they start using their heads, get more focused on customer support and working on all platforms equally and get rid of that zero spread crap (just use simply math to see how off target the guns are based on skill %).

The Van Buren project was nice, but lets face it FO1/2 days are gone, same as XCOM UFO/TFTD days are gone, same as JA1/2 days are gone, they were great games but they are dead now, I personally think Van Buren woulda been crap and gamey in comparison to FO1/2 anyway had it been fully developed, essentially tactics again.

That is a real pity.

There is a playable demo[Not very much at all mind] of Van Buren Fallout 3. Hopefully modders can get some good ideas from this to include in Bethesda's Fallout 3.

You mean the Tech Demo? Oh man that was awesome.
