Feel free to talk about the upcoming elder scrolls title! I loved the first one! It will also be discussed in next months gameinformer.

I hope its more dark and mysterious ( more like morrwind ) than Oblivion.
Oblivion was a bit too "happy"- looking for me.

I'm a great fan of Oblivion but actually I've never played it to the end. It's something I really want to do since it came out in 2006. Wow it's such a long time since then and graphics where great then. :D
I'm really looking forward to play Skyrim.

The graphics of Oblivion were great but it felt a bit artificial somehow. I hope that the layout of the world will be more organic and that npcs in the game react more natural. I want to have the feeling that the world shifts. I don't like it when you realize that npcs are just there to wait for you to ask them questions.

Easily the game I'm most excited for (Sorry Crysis 2). Better graphics would be good, sure, but to be honest I'm just hoping for great gameplay and a great storyline, hopefully better than Oblivions. Oblivion was fun, but could have been much better in my opinion. I love Morrowind, but not so much on the combat and most game mechanics side, just feels clunky nowadays.

Can't wait!

Oblivion is a brilliant game but he was lacking some things as the variety in the dialogs of the Fallout 3, and of graphs not this one not badly at all the truth.

He would be nice an Elder Scrolls that was using the cryengine 3 xD

Screenshots at http://badasspanda.com/first-skyrim-screenshots-and-info-from-game-informer/2566 and a few more at http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/oblivion_general_discussion/b49649/20660178/p1/

So to those who waited for a "darker" game and stuff, looks like you win. However, I'm gonna speak my mind about the graphics: That is the same engine they used for Oblivion, they openly admit to using Gamebryo but insist they "heavily modified" it or something. That kind of PR claims, my ass. If you look at
Image
you should be able to see that on the right side of that building there are light spots. If they finally had a decent shadow system those wouldn't be there.
And for a more authentic overview of how the game is gonna look:
Image
That's by no means a bad screenshot. But look closer. It's just Oblivion with less of the softening bloom and a particularly nice skybox. It looks more realistic but honestly not "better".

After the repetetive non-innovation they sold as "Fallout 3" not to speak of New **** Vegas (though I heard that wasn't Bethesda, they outsourced it?) I have no confidence left that they'll truly improve.

I liked Oblivion. "Liked". And 4 years later this looks to be Oblivion 1.5. Despite what other impressions from the screenshots I've read I see no real improvement and in terms of gameplay Oblivion wasn't at all the immersive RPG everyone acted like it was. It was full of bugs and quantity instead of quality. Remember that one dungeon? Yes? That's because you had to clear it about 50 times. Remember how all characters looked kinda the same (and very bad at that)? It hat the ingredients to make you addicted with small enough levelling steps and the occasional new weapon or piece of armor but even that - Low Carry Limit! it was the definition of a game that ruins your fun for no good reason. Did it benefit from limiting the amount of weaponry and armor you could carry? Not one bit. The amount that you could carry was still nowhere near "realistic" but frequently caused me to have to trace back my steps so I could retrieve a piece of equipment (say a decent sword) that I had to let go earlier and after another piece (say a great helmet) wore down didn't want to leave behind. I haven't even mentioned the ridiculous inventory itself, or the much-critisized levelling of enemies, the tedious Vampirism quest or the funky save points.

I know I'm a little late to complain about Oblivion but I think it's a relevant point now more than ever seeing as how much people on this forum complain about Crysis 2 despite having never played it. Oblivion got high review scores and a huge community still looks back to it as a classic RPG. Crysis 2 on the other hand shows no signs of bugs (Crysis was already a fairly solid game from that standpoint), and looks to generally well engineered adventure in the spirit of part 1. You can say what you want about the changes they allegedly made - what they are showing seems to be a great game.

I'll be waiting for gameplay footage without prerendered or staged fluff now before I change my mind about the road they're taking with Skyrim. I think Crysis fans have it pretty good compared to people who were waiting for another Elder Scrolls.

-snip-

On one hand, I'll agree with you that those screenshots don't look any better, except maybe the one with the lady's face, it looks a trifle better than Oblivion. But other than that, pretty much the same.

However, I would like to point out that since Bethesda enjoys a source code license to Gamebryo, it doesn't matter that they're still using it, they could completely overhaul it to be anything they like.

For example, this screenshot is from a modified Quake 3 engine, or idTech2, because the source code is available

With source and adequate programmers, the engine does not dictate the quality. Unfortunately, Bethesda appears to be lacking adequate programmers.

But, we'll see. I'll probably still play it, but wait till it's 50% off or something.

It's looking great. The changes they've made to their version of Gamebryo are out standing. I can't wait to see it in motion. However, if I'm honest the main reason I want to play Skyrim is so that I can then start anticipating the next Fallout.

I hope you can make the Khajiit look a bit better than in Oblivion... and I wonder if good ol' Umbra will have found its way to Skyrim.

Oblivion was an amazing game to be honest. Despite what others are saying about it looking too "happy". I feel like an outcast because I wasn't necessarily a gamer back in '03 so I never got a chance to try morrowind. Am I the only one here who was introduced to the Elder Scrolls with Oblivion? Anyways, I'm defintely getting Skyrim!

Khajiit FTW :)

I played Morrowind for 1 hour or so before Oblivion came out. So basically you can say I was introduced to ES with Oblivion and I liked it pretty much the way it was.

1. That looks great, but after some searching I have come to conclude that the game will never run like that on any current computer. So far there is not one complicated scene of scope. A couple of rooms with lots of objects in them, great, but what happens when you expand this to the size that an actual video game level normally is. They haven't talked about how they handle streaming, the LODs, all that stuff.

2. User Arvuti supplied this shot:

http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/screenshots/The_5F00_Elder_5F00_Scrolls_5F00_V_3A005F00_Skyrim/The_5F00_Elder_5F00_Scrolls_5F00_V_3A005F00_Skyrim_5F00_Media/Markarth01.jpg

Which further supports my thesis - made from a cheap magazine kind of version of this same picture - that they do not have a decent shadow system. The screenshot reminds me of Halo Reach's custom maps. The objects there also don't have shadows. That said Halo 3 was already much more advanced in terms of lighting than Oblivion.

Bethesda has redone the whole engine. I still havent gotten my new GI but i am anxiously waiting. :)
In that case what's your explanation why it doesn't look any better than Oblivion?

They went from a colorful palette to a realistic toned down one, they created people that look like people - that doesn't mean the poly count or shader work has increased, they just changed the style for something more realistic.
