Companions and their unhelpful comments

Anyone else get annoyed when your companion asks what you're doing and offers to aim your gun for you next time?
Particularly annoying when you've just made a cracking headshot at vision and the rifles limit...

I also find ED-E annoying when he plays that sound to confirm an enemy is cautious of you, and rex's constant barking.
Glad the enemies dont actually hear it!

It was worse before the first patch. I love bombarding enemies with an Incinerator on my Energy Weapons character, and Veronica's constan "Do i have to take that away from you?" didn't really help in zeroing in on the enemy. Haven't heard her say that once after the patch, which is kind of a shame :shrug:

thats makes sense tho, i'm talking when i make better kills then boone, and they all say the same thing...

Boone hasn't made that comment to me since patch 1.1. Yes it was a bit annoying because of the frequency, but I wish he'd say it at least once in a while....it's not like he had tons of other comments/lines, ala Cass.

Ronnie is really good with that thing. She has strong energy weapon skills. Give her a turn, you may be surprised.

I wish I had a companion that would rhyme every time they talked. I would never get tired of that.

The only thing that bugs me is when Boone asks to aim for me when I actually hit the enemy.

Boone doesn't offer to aim anything for me anymore and I miss it. He doesn't need to say it a lot but he says so little anyway that I wouldn't mind it at all.

Cass says how she's glad she doesn't have to do a caravan through the Mojave anymore a little too much...and how we're a caravan of two now. Once a day would be plenty. :) The rest of her dialogue is great though.

Yeah...I think in future games the companions need a lot more comments to choose from. You just spend sooooo much time with them. Sometimes I've spent 10 or 12 hours with 'em at a go, and almost any number of lines gets very repetitive. It will be a lot more work for the writers and voice actors, more money, etc., but it would make the game world so much more fun and immersive. The lines wouldn't have to be all hilarious/brilliant, just in character and with more variety.

I'd say around 7x or 10x the lines for a given situation would be ideal, but even 4 or 5 more lines per/ would be an improvement.
like:
add 3 or 4 for sneaking,
add 5 or 6 for fighting
4 or 5 for end-of-combat
9 or 10 for going into their inventory, since I do that a LOT. Doesn't have to be fancy or funny every time, just different.

fix the "want me to aim that for you?" comments so they really only trigger when you miss, maybe add a compliment or 3 for when you one-shot an enemy. It would be so fun to have Veronica say, "Wow, nice punching! Don't you love that?" when you one-punch a Sentry Bot.

I didn't mind Boone's comments about my shooting. I find Veronica a little too perky, but she's not so bad. I don't know. I guess the pvssyr doesn't bother me. It would be nice if they would have given us the option to turn it off if we'd like. That way the people who like it can have it and the people who don't like it can tell their companion to shut it. Maybe next game.

Considering that there's a vanilla bug where they have issues differentiating between an enemy dying and an enemy vanishing, I'm not sad to see the "Let me aim that for you next time" comments toned down.

As for Cass, it's funny in that she actually has a TON of variety in her pvssyr. The problem though, is that most will only work while outside in specific regions. If you're inside, or exploring the other 1/3-1/2 of the map that her comments don't cover, you'll only get to hear 7 of those couple hundred lines, hence the "Caravan of two now, caravan of two now, caravan of two now" effect.

An easy way for the devs to mitigate this would simply be to turn off her idle dialogue while indoors, so that way if you're at... say, the Atomic Wranger, you won't get an out-of-place generic trailblazing comment while inside, but instead get a Freeside specific comment once you step outside.
