Crysis 2 - FAQ (not official)

Q: When will / is there a beta for Crysis 2?
A: We don't know right now. It was mentioned as a perk for joining the site, but was quickly removed from the list. Currently there is no news on an upcoming beta.

Q: Will there be a console editor / mod tools / sandbox editor?
A: No. Crytek themselves have said that the requirements for sandbox 3 are HIGHER than the PC version of the game. They actually said that the "minimum requirements" for the EDITOR are a Quad core CPU, 4gb ram, an Nvidia GT-200 series (or ATI version) GPU and an x64 OS. Neither the playstation 3 OR the xbox 360 come even CLOSE to these requirements. Crytek COULD announce an ultra-light version of the editor, similar to Halo's Forge mode, but it is currently unlikely. If you see people referencing Far Cry 2 as a reason for Crysis 2 to have a console editor - this has no grounds. They run on two completely different engines.

Q: What are the PC requirements?
A: No idea. Crytek has said that if you can run Crysis, you can run Crysis 2. However, no news on what settings or resolutions will be possible on a system with that spec. The editor has been recommended to be run on systems with a Quad Core, 4gb of ram, an Nvidia GT-200 series card (or ATI version) and a 64-bit OS. This has been confirmed as MUCH higher than the actual game's requirements.

Q: When does Crysis 2 come out?
A: It has been said to come out Holiday 2010. This was confirmed MULTIPLE times at E3, as well as multiple Crytek websites, like gamesas.com, SOSNewyork.com and the EA store website.

Q: Has any PC footage been shown so far?
A: Currently there is no game play footage from the PC version, but a cut scene rendered entirely in-game on the PC has been shown. This video was the reveal for 3D support in Crysis 2. Please note, the game play at E3 was TECHNICALLY on the PC, however it was running on the same visual settings the Xbox 360 will have. This is likely due to stability or performance, although there is no official reason.

Q: Which version will look / run the best?
A: Crytek has said that the PC version will look best out of all 3 versions, simply due to resources. The consoles have been said to look "similar", each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Crytek has said that the PS3 version will run Physics calculations slightly better, due to its 'Cell' CPU, while the Xbox will run shader calculations slightly better due to its slightly better GPU. As for over-all appearance, there is no official data, as no high-quality screen shots of BOTH PS3 and Xbox 360 versions have been released (depicting the same area).

Hopefully that will answer many of the questions, as right now on the "General forum" area there are 3 threads on console editors, 3 threads on the beta and a ton more on release date and PC requirements.

Looks good to me, but you missed some questions on multiplayer.

I really hope Crysis 2 is more like Crysis, and not Crysis Wars. Crysis Wars does the gamemodes, cloak, and maps better, but Crysis is much bettee in every other aspect.

I see a lack of recoil in Crysis 2, but this was one of my favorite things about Crysis. In Crysis Wars the guns feel like air. I love the Crysis weapon balancing soooooooo much better!

Huh? In the E3 interview on Gamespot, they asked: "Will we be able to mod the game and make our own map?" Crytek answered: "We can't tell you too much, but don't worry about that *hinthint*"

^ Dunia uses less than 10% of CryEngine 1's code. Therefore its basically a new engine.... and that makes the point void.
^ Dunia uses less than 10% of CryEngine 1's code. Therefore its basically a new engine.... and that makes the point void.
however they began with cryengine1 and simply replaced 90 percent of code with new code. they may have put as much raw work in it as someone else would need to program an engine from the ground up BUT the basic structure of how it works is still very similar.

as for the "quad core cpu" and all that - thats just an easy answer they can give so an interviewer stops asking. we both and everyone else (should) know that cryengine 3 wouldnt need a NASA pc to run if it didnt have that wysiwyp or something tech that permanently streams data to TWO consoles and back. that, among other reasons. if you were to port the editor to one platform, ps3 or 360, that feature would obviously make no sense and be let go off, removing the entire performance issue. both pcs ive run sandbox 2 on ran it better than the actual game and even though my older pc only had 1 gig of ram the loading phases were always reasonable. they either know that they simply dont NEED to make an editor for consoles as single + multiplayer is enough to justify the purchase OR they want to keep it a secret and surprise everyone when they do unveil the console editor.

I wonder if something like this will get "stickyed." Or if the admins will ever add that kind of a feature to the forum.

Very nice list of ongoing, and popular questions. To those new to the site i'm sure it will prove itself an invaluable read.

You might want to add, that the MP is developed by Crytek UK, formerly known as Free Radical.
